Commentator: “Ken Griffey Jr., talking about a guy that, I think, is a surefire hall of famer.”
Way to go out on a limb.

I do not think that was a strikeout. Griffey was first batter of inning, and he and Garko both sat down. Unless I zoned out.
Is there somewhere I can listen w/o having to purchase the yearlong package?
I just wanted to believe.
I like that we’re starting Peralta-Droobs-Valbueana behind our sinkerballers today. I still hold this hope that another year of experience in the same positions will significantly improve our infield D.
Masterson apparently just made a second batter look silly with his breaking stuff. The two guys in question, Tuiasaposo and Nick Franklin, both K’d and are a Righty and a Switch respectively. I don’t know from which side Franklin batted; he’s very young career-wise and came into MLB as a switch hitter but I don’t know what he’s doing now.
A long time ago, my friend and I had an argument about who would have the better career, Patterson or Josh Hamilton. It’s been fun to follow their respective paths since then.
Just looked it up. Career OPS+: CP is 79, JG is 68. But Corey’s spread his suck out over 3700+ PA, and Gathright has a third of that. And both players seem to be getting worse. But somebody keeps giving them at-bats, so TRADE TREVOR CROWE!
And a strikeout on a changeup to Mike Saunders, hotshot left-handed prospect.
Masterson getting K’s makes me happy.
I feel as much animosity to M’s fans as I do to nearly any fanbase right now. It’s so difficult to watch somebody acting like we used to; I want them to have their faces rubbed in it just like ours were.
I’ve considered doing this post but, frankly, I think it would just upset people. Jay would do it better anyway.
Are you kidding? There is lots of sense in antagonizing them.

Hodges with something to prove apparently.

DG, Wes Hodges didn’t appreciate your earlier sentiments. Off the wall-er again.

Seems like they went with some pretty bold pictures this year. There was that picture of Westbrook that Castro had recently, and look at this one of Weglarz. Both had dramatic, almost super-hero poses, and the same light-steel background:

I believe one of the ones he’s talkinga bout is my new avatar.

Looking at the Box Score… It says the wind is blowing 27 mph to Right Field?!?!?
What gives? Is the pitching looking good in spite or – or because of – the weather conditions?

They were talking earlier about how they were surprised the scoring wasn’t higher because of how the wind was blowing.

Thanks.
Last spring, wasn’t it batters’ delight in AZ? IIRC.

This audio quality coupled with Jhonny’s voice is hard to understand.

Sipp gives up a single and double to start the inning. And then hits the next batter. Bases loaded. Nobody out. Sipp out. JLewis in.

I don’t know how sexist that really is. Seems to me you could have a man saying the same thing about his wife.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if every 5th day, Masterson and Laffey each alternated 5-inning starts with the other one pitching the final 4?
... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...
Didn’t see Laffey pitch today, but he was really impressive in the first game. His stuff was diving to the plate. Looked much better than how he ended last year.
Here is some more info from Castro:
This time around, Laffey said he’s working on his pitches behind the scenes, in his bullpen sessions. Specifically, he’s changed the grip on his two-seamer, trying to get more consistency with his location. The 57 walks allowed by Laffey in 121 2/3 innings in the Majors were rather uncharacteristic. “[The new grip] keeps the ball on the center of the plate and also has more depth to it,” he said. Laffey has had a coach stand in the box while he warms up in the bullpen to get a feel for the pitch. Then he takes what he’s learned about it into the game and, to this point, has fared quite well.
Nothing demonstrates positional value like Wes Hodges as a first baseman.
