LGT Fantasy 2010: The Players
So 11 brave souls have decided to take me on in CBSsports.com Fantasy Baseball. Actually, they aren't necessarily brave, since two Indians rebuilds have taken place since I last played fantasy baseball. Here's who I'm up against (with their team names):
Toxicadam
westbrook
TheVanillaGorilla
USSChoo
FredOx
mwball75 - Mr. September
woodsmeister
Gradyforpresident
mjmarble
The Spider That Bit Brian Giles
emd2k3
My team name is You Know Me Al.
For those who are participating, I'll be sending out invitations via the e-mails listed in your profile. If you wish to use a different e-mail address, let me know (via e-mail) before tomorrow evening.
Our next step will be deciding on the player pool (AL-only, NL-only, or Both), and the scoring system (rotisserie, Ranked (points), or Head-to-Head (points). I'm leaning towards limiting the player pool to AL-only, since that's the league most of us follow, and would be more of a challenge than using both leagues. But I'm unsure as to the scoring system - does anyone have an opinion on what rules are better for a serious fantasy league?

With 12 players you absolutely have to do both leagues. I don’t want to be in a situation where I am worried if Felix Pie or Scott Podsednik is going to be getting playing time for that week. That’s no fun.
I like H2H better than Rotisserie as it keeps people interested all the way through the season. Often with rotisserie, by the all-star break, the guys in the bottom of the standings will quit trying.
Yeah, I’m agreeing with both leagues because of the number of teams.
I’ve played Rotisserie and Head to Head before. The thing I don’t like about Rotisserie is that you can literally be out of the race 1/3 of the way through the season and it makes participating tough to muster in the 2nd half for the lower ranking of teams. I like Head to Head because it seems there is more initiative to pay attention each week and more initiative to pay attention longer. Thoughts?

I agree with all of this. I’d much rather have a H2H league using all of the ML. As for stats, etc. I’m open to whatever everyone wants.
One note, if we wanted to make this a keeper league we should 1) state that now, 2) define the number and type of players to keep, 3) define the rules surround who to keep (and how they affect drafing, etc.). Aparently it’s a whole heck of a lot more complicated than one would have imagined.
I just wanted to believe.
Whoops, I totally missed this.
What are the Team Names? As a spectator, I demand awesome team names.
My buddy James is in a NASCAR fantasy league (Georgia… don’t ask.) His team name was “The InJimidator”

My username is mwball75.
My team name is gonna be:
Mr. September
I don’t care on the player pool or rules.
Fine with full MLB pool.
Prefer H2H, but OK with roto.
Keepers? Standard Draft? Auction?

Never done H2H before, but I’m down. Both leagues is fine.
Categories, I’d do a modified 5×5 but I’d also replace steals with net steals (if this is even possible), and maybe add walks for pitchers instead of something. But it’s not that big a deal for me.

The St. Paul (MN) Zuvellas weigh in....
I generally prefer H2H — it keeps everybody in it.
Aside for not wanting BA and not counting Ks against batters, I’m good.

H2H
H2H is fun, good trash talking, i’m fine with that, or whatever.
Its on!
In a personal spring training of sorts, I am beginning to work on the fundamentals (developing derisive nicknames, working on insults for MSBall75 and his various female relatives, etc.)

Why is the subject line so problematic? And aren’t you a girl?

posts easier to read without the bold text showing up everywhere interrupting the flow.
And I’m certainly not a girl – I’ve got two full decades under my belt.
Two full “decades” under your belt would make you a male.

Or she meant decimeters.

Spider and MW, It’d probably be nicer if you guys stopped using the subject line :)
And, if I stopped using emoticons.
... Paul Hoynes is a really great guy ...
I prefer roto but i’ll go with the flow. Mixed league makes sense. Whatever kind of draft is fine. I’m a little skeptical about keepers, but mostly because I’ve never done it. I’m going to win.

I’ve never done a keeper, but I’m OK with it. Don’t care about draft or stats, just as long as we have them in place a good amount of time before the draft so I can do my extensive research into new ways to lose.

OK guys, Head-to-Head seems like it’s winning.
We have some options in the scoring system. They are:
1) Most Points is a Win. In other words, add up all the points, and whoever has the most that week is the winner.
2) Most Categories is a Win. Whoever wins the most categories is the winner.
3) Each Category is a Win. So if you win all your categories for the week, you’d be 5-0 and your opponent would be 0-5
I guess I’m partial to either 2) or 3). With 2) it’s a winner-take-all game, and with 3) you can still eke out some points even if your opponent was better overall.
I feel like 3) is somewhat of a compromise between roto and h2h.

Instead of starting an unnecessary thread on it, i’ll ask here:
does anyone use a sabermetric fantasy projection system, other than BP’s Player Forecast Manager? I’m in a deep, 8-team AL-only league and have used BP’s platform the past 2 years with relative success, but this year I know for certain that 2 other team owners will be using it, so its marginal benefit is decreasing.
THT has a product, but it doesn’t offer player auction values based on customized league parameters like BP’s does. CHONE has nothing at all.
Any suggestions? feel free to email me at my sbn user name @yahoo.com

i found an old guy smoking a cigar kicking around some pebbles on the corner of Lexington and E. 66th, but he started shouting something about moving the runner over at all costs, and I sped away.
