Sounds precautionary.

Bad backs in a 27 yo is not “normal”. We have reason for concern.

how did we go from “stiff” to “bad”? i had a stiff back once when i was 27. it went away in a couple of days.
I think most 27 year olds that have spent a life playing sports have either the beginning of a bad back or a full fledged onset of one.
Since Lonnie Soloff’s the source. I put the chances of this being an on and off again issue at >25%. And I recognize that’s a wild ass guess.
Plus I got two words for you: Joe Charnobeau.

Grady Sizemore’s back is the source.
Grady Sizemore has a sore back, Russel Branyan has a bad back. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Russel Branyan, IIRC, started out with a sore back. Three or four “sore backs” later and now it’s a “bad back”.

No, herniated discs and a back surgery later. You’re blowing things a bit out of proportion.

link? i’m calling B,S.
all i see, in every report, is:
tightness in his backand that it’s NOT considered “serious”.
This is the quote:
“I felt it while I was hitting in the batting cages,” Sizemore said after Sunday’s game. “I tried to take a few swings, but the pain was pretty severe. It feels the same way now as it did before the game.”Even then, however, Acta thought Grady would play yesterday. Heck, as of yesterday morning, the team thought he would play. Maybe they’re just a bunch of lying liars, but the evidence suggests that this isn’t that serious (yet).
Took me a while to find it, but Fred beat me to it. “Severe,” not “serious.”
Soloff and the Tribe have a history of downplaying and obscuring injury. Even that finger guy was supposed to just have a minor problem, and they were searching frantically around under the stadium for his finger even while assuring everyone there was no real problem.
Was Miller’s injury trouble downplayed? I remember general optimism because of his talent, but a pervasive worry that he had some serious issues.
Who’s Miller?
(Sorry, I’m contractually obligated to do this.)
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
We’ve gone through this before. I suppose there could be a HIPA reason for being vague about injuries, but I also believe such reticence has something to do with the dark cult of control at 2401 Ontario. I don’t understand why it’s necessary, unless it’s a matter of medical privacy. Maybe other teams are the same way. I would think it would be better to oversell injuries and have players return ahead of time, but maybe agents complain when their clients are thusly reported.
With medical issues, the Indians are the boy who never cries wolf. Now we have to assume that there’s a serious injury every time they say there’s no serious injury.

Not that so much. It’s just that many of these chronic issues, like back pain, start with this very non-discript symptoms. After all, the Adam Miller tragedy started with a blister.

Actually it’s Kaunakakai, and it’s on Molokai, not Maui. Same county though

Hawaiian spelling is much easier than English. There’s only 12 letters and the spelling conventions are uniform.
Plus one change in a letter and you change the whole meaning of the word. For example honu means “turtle”, hona means “tree”, hono – as in Honolulu – means bay and honolulu means “sheltered bay”. With only 12 letters and a limited vocabulary that one letter makes a big difference.
Kaunakakai means “beach landing” not sure of the origin but “kai” means salt water, wai, means fresh water. Like the native Alaskans and snow, Hawaiians have a whole lotta words for water.

i love the sound of this, per castro:
Not sure how serious this Grady Sizemore back issue is, but anything serious enough to pull him out of the home opener is nothing to scoff at. That said, manager Manny Acta is also taking advantage of Tuesday’s off day to give Grady three consecutive days off, so we’ll see if he’s back in there Wednesday.
