Damnit, I only got 125/1 odds on the championship.

I’ve lost all of my pessimism since my buddy got back from Goodyear. Here it is: 88 and 74.
Boy, I hope this fever breaks soon.

Given the likely sorry state of our bullpen, it makes sense that the team will likely underperform its Pythag. Underperforming Pythag is not just a Wedge thing – lots of other managers have done it.

78-84 With a strong August/September push due to the contributions of CC & Huff in the rotation and Masterson in the pen.

OK, I tabulated the results.
The LGT group-think predicts a 79-83 record.
mjmarble wins the crazy optimism award with 89-73
mjschaefer wins the steel-eyed pragmatist award with 69-93
nickjs21 and talonk share the soul of LGT award for predicting the same record as the community as a whole.
Winner receives a free hot dog, compliments of me, the next time we’re both at a baseball game together.

It’s just funny, and maybe stereotypically Clevelandesque, for the most pessimistic view to be considered the “pragmatic” one.
Had someone else guessed 52 wins, would he have beaten out mjschaefer for the “steel-eyed pragmatist” award?
Seriously!
I think my personal perspective about 2010 doesn’t see much difference between pessismism and pragmatism. Of course, you’re right, this is also the default Clevelander position, especially about the Tribe.
But I honestly think in this case it had less to do with any of that and more to do with the fact that I wrote the original post very quickly and after I’d had three Celis Whites.
