Gammons injury quote buried in a longer piece, but shines a little more light on how a “bone bruise” could leads to surgery. I guess if one’s kneecap gets messed up enough, it needs to get stitched back in place.

Unsurprisingly, Grady’s injury is of long duration. The PD says it was in April, though with no word of when in the month it happened.

If it’s a weight-bearing joint – and most probably it’s his knee – he’s out for the rest of the season, and maybe a piece of next year’s too.

This procedure is done to try and produce a “pad” between the two facets of the knee joint – the area in compression. Biologic structures perform much better in tension than compression, so this is a realitively fragile area. Think of Amare Stoudemire’s recovery time – well over twelve months.

Any way you slice it, if Grady has this procedure, it’s bad news.
