Around SBN: Is Adebayor About To Become A Full-Time Spur?

Per orders of the Cleveland Indians, Clippers pitcher Carlos Carrasco was scratched today from his 11:35 a.m. start against the Syracuse Chiefs.

The move could mean a call-up for Carrasco, who is 2-1 with a 3.49 earned run average, or it could be precautionary. Stay tuned. Reliever Mike Gosling is starting for Carrasco. He probably has three innings in his gas tank.

I wonder if Carrasco can hit

He was part of a National League team’s system. Not that it means anything.

He once had a double (in AA).

by FredOx on May 4, 2010 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions

It really doesn’t, especially when you consider that AL and NL affiliates are mixed into every minor league.

by Jay on May 4, 2010 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm. Jake’s elbow said something to him after last start?

by mcrose on May 4, 2010 11:50 AM EDT reply actions

Shelley Duncan and Chris Gimenez each hit 2-run HRs in the first for Columbus. Gimenez is on one his torrid streaks, again.

by APV on May 4, 2010 11:56 AM EDT reply actions

I know it matters not at all, but just win the IL please. Just because.

by dgcambridge on May 4, 2010 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Shelley just blasted another homer. This time a 3 run bomb.

Anything in life is possible, except for skiing through revolving doors.

by MooneysRebellion on May 4, 2010 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Good. Trade him to the Yankees.

by westbrook on May 4, 2010 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Going to get a bat seems crazy, it not going to help this team in the long run. Let the kids play. My guess would be an injury

by johio1 on May 4, 2010 11:57 AM EDT reply actions

This is interesting. CarCar had his worst start of the season last time out.

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 11:59 AM EDT reply actions

Well, somebody’s hurt.

by dgcambridge on May 4, 2010 12:00 PM EDT reply actions

yeah. it’s either him or who he’s replacing. as long as it’s not fausto, i just don’t much care, honestly.

by Brick. on May 4, 2010 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Reading the report again, it certainly seems to imply that Cleveland said he couldn’t start, (as opposed to Columbus). That distinction would imply he’s coming up as opposed to hurt (since I think that would be a decision made by Columbus’ medical staff, I assume).

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Anybody have an audio feed to the Columbus game?

Anything in life is possible, except for skiing through revolving doors.

Yeah, I do. Haven’t heard anything.

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Would you be willing to post a link to it? I’m bored out of my mind at work.

It’s available for free through milb.com. Just go there, then multimedia, then milb gameday audio.

Santana up with 2 guys on, 2 outs. He has cooled somewhat lately.

by APV on May 4, 2010 12:10 PM EDT reply actions

He just grounded out. He’s cooled considerably. .790 OPS in his last 10 games.

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 12:12 PM EDT up reply actions

790 OPS on the big club would be like an Icelandic volcano. Ground all the planes!

there’s a gulf oil slick joke in here somewhere.

by Brick. on May 4, 2010 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Chris Gimenez, to a lesser degree, has stolen his mojo

by APV on May 4, 2010 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m just thinking about referring to Gimenez as TALE from now on.

Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!

by emd2k3 on May 4, 2010 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Or TALD? It’s the biggest decision an LGTist has to make.

by YoDaddyWags on May 4, 2010 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s nice to see that we’ve moved on from the contract vs. signing argument.

by FredOx on May 4, 2010 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m in for TALD.

by Joel D on May 4, 2010 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

There is no reason him and Valbuena both shouldn’t be major league hitters.

Oh, wait. We don’t need a reason. We’re Cleveland.

Clippers’ broadcast guy being an idiot about Twitter. “I’ll never get into it. Not enough characters. Vowels are necessary” etc, etc.

I can’t imagine somebody working in media and not trying to embrace this stuff with both arms. You’ve got to reach consumers through popular mediums, regardless of whether or not it feels “right” or “cool” to you.

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

I like it when they trot out the old “ham sandwich” excuse: I don’t want to read about what you had for lunch, who cares!

That’s right guys, that’s exactly what Twitter is.

by dgcambridge on May 4, 2010 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Except nobody has ham sandwiches on Twitter. It’s like, tofu salad or a banana smoothie.

by odradek on May 4, 2010 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions

By that logic, should they deliver their play-by-play in rap form? Hip-hop is very popular and is a big part of the youth demographic that baseball desperately needs!

I don’t think that is exactly logical.

by jakesinger777 on May 4, 2010 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Another groundout for Santana.

Sigh.

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 1:00 PM EDT reply actions

by YoDaddyWags on May 4, 2010 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Indeed. Gargling cayenne powder and salt dry just induces coughing. And dissolving them in antifreeze just induces death.

by Logodaedalus on May 4, 2010 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d suggest substituting tomato juice and vodka for the water. And skipping the gargling.

by FredOx on May 4, 2010 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions   2 recs

Santana just took a 4 pitch walk. 2nd on the game. I believe that makes 19 walks in 24 games for Carlos, a 9 in his last 10. I wonder if teams are working around him to the point that it’s affecting his rhthym.

by afh4 on May 4, 2010 1:49 PM EDT reply actions

And Duncan follows with his 2nd HR of the game

by APV on May 4, 2010 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

That is a very good possibility. Extremely difficult to keep any rhythm if you never get a chance to swing the bat consistently.

It’s cosistently!

Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!

by emd2k3 on May 4, 2010 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I divided Santana’s stats into games in which he reached base by walk or HBP and games in which he did not. In non-walk games, he has a .333 AVG and .667 SLG, with 7 XBH in 39 PA. In walk games, he has a .272 AVG and .363 SLG, with one double in 51 PA.

Of course, there is a simpler explanation: 8 of the 12 games with a walk or HBP came after he fouled a ball off his knee.

by FredOx on May 4, 2010 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

And of course I screwed this up, not that it proves anything anyway. Add in the game on 4/11 that I missed, and the walk average is .277 and slugging percentage is .444, with two XBH in 55 PA.

Todd enters in relief and promptly gives up a HR to the first batter

by APV on May 4, 2010 1:58 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve been kicking around this theory, but it’s a bit complicated, so bear with me.

Here it is: Jess Todd is worthless.

by Jay on May 4, 2010 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m going to dispute this. In his minor league career, Jess Todd has thrown 275.1 innings with a WHIP of 1.061, including 86.2 AAA innings with a WHIP of 1.177. His AAA K/9 is 10.5 and his K/BB is 3.16 at that level. That is not a meaningless track record. I understand that he got beaten around in the majors last year, but he was only 23 and he was still striking out almost nine guys per nine innings with a K/BB over 2.5. To look at his dreadful start to this year and say that he is worthless seems a little knee-jerk to me. He may end up being worthless, but I don’t think the truck has left the driveway on this one just yet.

Come on, four billion!

by Joel D on May 4, 2010 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I told you it was complicated.

By the time he made his major league debut last August, Todd was about 23.3 years old. That is young, but you don’t expect to see stuff improvement past that age. Most pitchers have the best stuff they’re ever going to have at age 23, so all we’re really wondering here is if his smarts and mechanics can improve in this, his fourth professional season, and beyond.

Still, Todd is not young now, nor has ever been young for his league. His minor league numbers do seem to show a guy who should be a major league pitcher, but still, we’re talking about a grand total of 363 career PA-against in Triple-A — hardly a definitive sample. I guess I’m just saying, he may improve, but he’s not “projectable.”

by Jay on May 4, 2010 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

What if he changed his name to Todd Jess, would it mean he would pitch the opposite?

Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!

My rough approximation is that his agent has told spanish language outlets hat he’s coming up?

Carlos Carrasco is in Cleveland and will be activated and will send tonight if Jake Westbrook cannot do it (back), said its agent

Why? Seems pretty reasonable to me. They want him on hand, but won’t make the transaction unless they have to.

by dgcambridge on May 4, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

LGT's resident moderate Yankee hating fan.
