Per orders of the Cleveland Indians, Clippers pitcher Carlos Carrasco was scratched today from his 11:35 a.m. start against the Syracuse Chiefs.
The move could mean a call-up for Carrasco, who is 2-1 with a 3.49 earned run average, or it could be precautionary. Stay tuned. Reliever Mike Gosling is starting for Carrasco. He probably has three innings in his gas tank.

He was part of a National League team’s system. Not that it means anything.

It really doesn’t, especially when you consider that AL and NL affiliates are mixed into every minor league.

Shelley Duncan and Chris Gimenez each hit 2-run HRs in the first for Columbus. Gimenez is on one his torrid streaks, again.
Shelley just blasted another homer. This time a 3 run bomb.

yeah. it’s either him or who he’s replacing. as long as it’s not fausto, i just don’t much care, honestly.
Anybody have an audio feed to the Columbus game?

Would you be willing to post a link to it? I’m bored out of my mind at work.

Clippers’ broadcast guy being an idiot about Twitter. “I’ll never get into it. Not enough characters. Vowels are necessary” etc, etc.
I can’t imagine somebody working in media and not trying to embrace this stuff with both arms. You’ve got to reach consumers through popular mediums, regardless of whether or not it feels “right” or “cool” to you.
I like it when they trot out the old “ham sandwich” excuse: I don’t want to read about what you had for lunch, who cares!
That’s right guys, that’s exactly what Twitter is.
By that logic, should they deliver their play-by-play in rap form? Hip-hop is very popular and is a big part of the youth demographic that baseball desperately needs!

Rhyming may also appeal to the coveted 3-8 year-old demographic. Get ’em hooked young!

Brantley’s got some kind of nagging injury, too. Ankle or something.
Nothing like marginal skills + injury prone.
I have a sore throat today and I looked up home remedies for sore throat. I just gargled with cayenne powder and salt, in water. It wasn’t bad.

He added the water after seeing the Acta powerpoint.

Indeed. Gargling cayenne powder and salt dry just induces coughing. And dissolving them in antifreeze just induces death.
I’d suggest substituting tomato juice and vodka for the water. And skipping the gargling.

Santana just took a 4 pitch walk. 2nd on the game. I believe that makes 19 walks in 24 games for Carlos, a 9 in his last 10. I wonder if teams are working around him to the point that it’s affecting his rhthym.
That is a very good possibility. Extremely difficult to keep any rhythm if you never get a chance to swing the bat consistently.

I divided Santana’s stats into games in which he reached base by walk or HBP and games in which he did not. In non-walk games, he has a .333 AVG and .667 SLG, with 7 XBH in 39 PA. In walk games, he has a .272 AVG and .363 SLG, with one double in 51 PA.
Of course, there is a simpler explanation: 8 of the 12 games with a walk or HBP came after he fouled a ball off his knee.
I’ve been kicking around this theory, but it’s a bit complicated, so bear with me.
Here it is: Jess Todd is worthless.
by Jay on May 4, 2010 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m going to dispute this. In his minor league career, Jess Todd has thrown 275.1 innings with a WHIP of 1.061, including 86.2 AAA innings with a WHIP of 1.177. His AAA K/9 is 10.5 and his K/BB is 3.16 at that level. That is not a meaningless track record. I understand that he got beaten around in the majors last year, but he was only 23 and he was still striking out almost nine guys per nine innings with a K/BB over 2.5. To look at his dreadful start to this year and say that he is worthless seems a little knee-jerk to me. He may end up being worthless, but I don’t think the truck has left the driveway on this one just yet.
Come on, four billion!
I told you it was complicated.
By the time he made his major league debut last August, Todd was about 23.3 years old. That is young, but you don’t expect to see stuff improvement past that age. Most pitchers have the best stuff they’re ever going to have at age 23, so all we’re really wondering here is if his smarts and mechanics can improve in this, his fourth professional season, and beyond.
Still, Todd is not young now, nor has ever been young for his league. His minor league numbers do seem to show a guy who should be a major league pitcher, but still, we’re talking about a grand total of 363 career PA-against in Triple-A — hardly a definitive sample. I guess I’m just saying, he may improve, but he’s not “projectable.”

Who speaks the best Spanish? What do all these people have to say about Carrasco?
http://twitter.com/#search?q=Carrasco
Carlos Carrasco is in Cleveland and will be activated and will send tonight if Jake Westbrook cannot do it (back), said its agent
My guess is that Jake had a sore back this morning but is fine now.
Yeah, there’s no way that is what it is, but this Luis Rangel fellow claimed that’s why he was being called up.
LGT's resident moderate Yankee hating fan.
Why? Seems pretty reasonable to me. They want him on hand, but won’t make the transaction unless they have to.
