Minor league roundup thus far (because it’s that time of the year):

  • Carrasco on the mound for Columbus, 3 shutout so far, 1 H
  • Solo HRs from LaPorta and Josh Rodriguez
  • Four shutout for Scott Barnes so far in Akron, 1 H, 5 K

by JRontherim on Jun 9, 2010 8:01 PM EDT reply actions

Seriously LaPorta? Just like that?

by dgcambridge on Jun 9, 2010 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s 3-3 now with 2 HRs, a single and 4 RBI. Weglarz is 2-3 with a double. CC has 6 shutout, 7 K, 2 H, 1 BB. Scott Barnes also has 6 shutout, 2 H, 0 BB, 9 K.

Too good for AAA!

Make that 7 shutout for Barnes now and 10 K.

SUCK IT, STRASBURG.

Strasburg’s a hack.

I was actually thinking earlier, but opted not to say it aloud, but why not here: How many of the dumber talking head ESPN-types would have pulled in the reigns even a little bit on the praise they gave to Strasburg if the Washington offense had failed to score after the first inning and he was tagged with the loss? Undeniably, I think quite a few of them would have pulled back a bit, and that is ridiculous.

by JRontherim on Jun 9, 2010 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep, had the same thought.

MASTERSON. And getting out the guy he was traded for!

Also! TAKE THIS, Random tweet I found earlier.

I just clicked his profile to see his tweets now that Masterson is winning the matchup. He is just shrugging it off in a lame, poorly executed sarcastic way. Idiot fans can’t admit when they are idiot fans.

by JRontherim on Jun 9, 2010 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Hahaha. Another tweet of his:

“@LetsGoTribe Also glad that you knew the sarcasm in that specific tweet since you know me and all. Nice work. YOU make Indians fans look bad”

Take THAT, Andrew! You’re a jerk! We’re all jerks!

by JRontherim on Jun 9, 2010 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

All it takes is about 15 seconds reading his blog to figure out whether he was being sarcastic about this.

I love his confidence about how Shapiro preferred Buchholz over Masterson. I’ve mentioned a few times about how overrated Buchholz has always been, but nobody is going to prefer Masterson over him.

by Jay on Jun 9, 2010 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Upon your mentioning his blog, I pulled it up. I skimmed and got to where he praises Grudz and pegs him as a legit major league starter.

Sadly, people like that aren’t willing to listen at all. They are so convinced they are right.

No, he wasn’t. What is the point of even trying to delve into the world of sarcasm if you’re unfunny to begin with? Someone looking to get into shape doesn’t sign up for a marathon.

Boston TV guys basically saying they probably shouldn’t send Justin back out for the 9th.

by Jay on Jun 9, 2010 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

There’s no point, really.

by YoDaddyWags on Jun 9, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. But that was one easy 1st out.

Are the Boston announcers as hard to listen to as their fans?

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

by salome on Jun 9, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

No, they’re actually rather knowledgeable and entertaining, as local TV guys go.

by Jay on Jun 9, 2010 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

They’re pretty good, and entertaining like you said.

Is Remy (sp?) still there? I believe he had cancer or something a while back, not sure what happened exactly.

I agree, but my only exposure to them is by seeing clips of Douche no-hitters.

I think one of them says, dismissively, “Don’t worry about it,” when an opponent lofts a can o’ corn.

by YoDaddyWags on Jun 9, 2010 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

The cops in Baltimore say, “Don’t worry about it” when a drunk crawls up the flagpole at Camden Yards.

by odradek on Jun 11, 2010 1:34 AM EDT up reply actions

That almost sounds threatening, like the voicemail a low-level mafia member would leave someone. “You probably shouldn’t show up to court tomorrow”.

All three Indians teams above A ball (ML, AAA, AA) won in shutouts. Not one pitcher allowed a run above A+ ball.

by JRontherim on Jun 9, 2010 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

And even down in A+, Gardner pitched a pretty good game.

by bewwolv on Jun 9, 2010 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

And though it’s possible I’d never heard of the LC starter (Nuno), one base runner in 4 innings and 7 Ks is good as well.

Can’t wait to get home tonight and watch that 8th innings.

One day I'll get over to watch the Tribe play

I’d like to happily sign up for some humble pie RE: Masterson in the pen. I never would’ve thought he’d piece together a game like tonight. Love having him stretch out for a complete game shutout! This game is secretly HUGE.

Has anyone noticed that Cliff Lee has surrendered all of four walks in 61.2 innings this year?

by JRontherim on Jun 9, 2010 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

Eck in 1989 and 1990: 0.5 BB/9. Lee this year: 0.6. Byrd’s best: 1.2.

by YoDaddyWags on Jun 9, 2010 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, but Byrd is the word. You can’t argue that.
