Heyman: Jhonny has 'very little value'
Why didn't Kearns make this list?

So we destroyed all his value by moving him from SS? Who could have seen this coming? Oh wait…..

Nope, I still think this is a better team with Peralta still playing SS, Asdrubal at 2b, and Marte at 3b.

Well, if there’s a GM out there that shares your view, he is welcome to take Jhonny and some cash for a trinket or two.
I think almost all GMs would be hesitant to trade for a shortstop who is renowned for having poor range. Jhonny hasn’t put up the numbers to make his defense at SS acceptable since, what, 2007? Establishing him as a solid or plus defender at 3B was the only hope to resuscitate his value, to us or to anyone else.
And guess what? He’s been equally crappy at 3B. If you give UZR any credence, he was well above average at short last year, and improved every year he played.

All that means is that this value gambit has not worked out. It doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a good idea. Lots of folks thought Jhonny would make a fine 3B and very possibly an above-average one. He certainly has the hands and the arm for the job, but one suspects that he hasn’t quite thrown himself into mastering it.
If Fat SS had stayed at SS until now and was hitting this way, with his history of D at SS, I am quite confident that his value would probably be similar.

why? the only reason people are ok with a SS hitting worse than a third baseman is because short stops generally play good defense. If he’s an even worse fielder than he is a hitter, why showcase that at short for everyone to see?
