I would think with the indians need for starters they would have to essentially give us their farm system.
I hate the steelers the way a mother loves a child.
Do they really have anything left in their farm system?

Didn’t they stock it all last summer?

Who did the Pirates dump last year? I only remember a millege for nyjer morgan trade ? But don’t remember anyone else involved or other trades.

Living here in Pittsburgh, and listening to their sports stations, all their quality youngsters are now on the big club and include Pedro Alvarez (3B), Neil Walker (2B), Jose Tabata (LF), and Brad Lincoln (P).
As far as I know, the next wave of their young talent is not close to MLB ready.
The fact that they’re not close to the majors is not necessarily an obstacle to making a deal if they have high upside, is it?

Man, I hope it is a little bit if the Tribe trades Carmona and his club friendly contract. I guess if you put together some of their recent, very high draft picks, I would consider it. But that would include Alvarez, who I don’t think they would touch right now.
All discussions for Carmona should start with Andrew McCutchen and go from there.

You’re greatly overvaluing Carmona

Nope, I know his value. I’m just not really interested in trading him unless we are blown away. I really like that contract and all the team options.
Similar to how the Pirates would feel about trading McCutchen I would think.
So you know Carmona’s value you’re just choosing to ignore it? Gotcha. In that case lets see if the Dodgers are willing to give us Heyward.

I feel like we are going to get in another discussion on this site about perceived vs real value and true market value as well.
According to this story the Pirates are contacting the Indians about Carmona, not the other way around. Cleveland has no real reason, in terms of depth or finances, to want to trade Carmona right now. So what’s wrong with asking for the moon even though we all know that’s not actually what he is worth.
Carmona is a proven quantity. I want something proven in return. I don’t want to trade a quality, club friendly pitcher for a player that might be that in several years.
But, yeah, I like that Heyward guy so sign me up for that.

Carmona is a proven quantity.
I completely disagree. In fact, the only thing Carmona has proven over the years is that he’s extremely inconsistent.
Carmona’s FIP over the last four years are 3.94, 4.89,5.36, and 4.13. That essentially translates into one good year, two horrible years, and one decent year. Given that track record, I think its far from clear which Carmona you’re likely to receive in a trade. When I think proven quantity I think of a player with a consistent and reliable track record.
And lets not forget that we’re talking about a player that’s never had a FIP below 3.94 or a strikeout rate higher than 6.99 per 9.
i’m not saying Carmona doesn’t have good value. But if you want a 23 year old five tool center fielder who’s played really well in his 1.5 years in the majors, you’re grasping at straws.

So what’s the preferred stat?

I haven’t really seen a good one that makes some attempt to luck-adjust without treating extreme groundballers as if they’re just getting lucky on BIP.
Oooh, combo stats! Pure genius ordrade, just pure genius!

I don’t know; McCutchen wasn’t even an All-Star this year.

if Dave Littlefield were still GM they would be asking about Westbrook.

I would think so. At the very least the deal would have to be centered around an AA stud. If the Indians traded Carmona for a Knapp/Hagadone type center piece then someone in the front office really messed up.

Tangential, but Carrasco seems to be fine. Whew:
Goes on to say how good his stuff was last night. I think he will be Laffey’s replacement very soon.
Durham wound up winning 7-0 by getting 11 hits and seven runs off reliever Jeremy Sowers over the final three innings.
lulz.

His previous outing, he threw 1.2 innings, gave up 4H, 4R/ER, 3BB, and had 0K, so that’s 15 hits, 11R, 3BB, and 1K in his last 4.2 IP.
clap

Friend of Shap’s helping to rise Fausto’s value a little?
Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.
I can only assume that this story is not about the Pittsburgh baseball team, but rather about actual pirates. Of the Caribbean. Presumably Santo Domingo.

I think that’s a little more SSS than other players who are opsing 850 for the clippers.
