I hear they get their hair cut at the same place.

Ouch. Reid Brignac has had some unexpected power lately.

In the new Geico commercial, Marte sings "Let me be myself" on Wedge's front lawn (with the cavemen).

That Nix effort on that seeing-eye basehit was brutal. Costs the team 3 runs.

glad to see everyone made it to the game thread today.

I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.

Ok Masterson. No more walks

LaPorta’s been lost at the plate today, but that was a heck of a play to get the DP and not allow the run to score.

Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.

What happened?

In the new Geico commercial, Marte sings "Let me be myself" on Wedge's front lawn (with the cavemen).

first and third no outs: Ball hit to Laporta at first. Quick look to third, throw to 2nd base, throw back to laporta for the DP. Run didn’t score.

Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.

That’s like The Gift of the Magi right there.

Well, not really, but there is something there.

Not exactly a strikeout pitcher (6.7/9) or a ground ball pitcher (40%). He’s also seemingly been quite lucky this year (.240 BABIP, 4.06 FIP to a 2.68 ERA). I’m going to go out on a limb and guess we don’t get lucky again like we did with Gomez.

Good control, though (2.7BB/9).

by JRontherim on Jul 25, 2010 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Apparently, we’re employing the strategy where we pick a minor league pitcher so un-formidable, there’s a good chance the Yankees won’t bother to scout him.

by Jay on Jul 25, 2010 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I think you’re giving the Yankees too much credit. When I was 14, an 8-4, 2.68 line was quite impressive.

Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

by Manhattan Tribe Fan on Jul 25, 2010 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions

we might get a Marte DFA to go with that.

Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.

by westbrook on Jul 25, 2010 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Can’t see them letting Marte go when Peralta is going to be gone soon.

by Jay on Jul 25, 2010 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Rivero or a trade then, right?

or to a lesser extent, Jordan Brown.

Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.

by westbrook on Jul 25, 2010 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions

My immediate thought was a Kearns trade. We’re already carrying five OFs + LaPorta and Nix (who, apparently, can play the corners). And, to a lesser extent, Chris Gimenez. So, point being, even if we ship Kearns out, we’re in fine shape defensively in the outfield.

Of course, that would require a hard set date for a trade, which could always fall through.

by JRontherim on Jul 25, 2010 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Rivero… Hodges… I will forever mix them up.

Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.

Huh? Seriously? Couldn’t be much more different.

by Jay on Jul 26, 2010 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

You’re dreaming. We’ll be lucky to get a dominoes set in return for Andy.

You mean, in return for Peralta, right?

by Jay on Jul 25, 2010 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe I overstated it, but we might get a A level kid who’s been injured/arrested with some potential for Peralta, but right now I’m figurin’ salary dump and a PTBNL.

Resident LGT results-oriented boob.

by mauichuck on Jul 25, 2010 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m confused – been workin’ in the heat too long – yeah I was thinkin’ Jhonny and typed Andy, but I don’t see either of those guys drawin’ flies by August 1.

Resident LGT results-oriented boob.

by mauichuck on Jul 25, 2010 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Doesn’t have to be August 1, or even the real deadline, August 31.

To clarify, my point was that Peralta won’t be around next season, so it makes sense to keep Marte around as an option. He’ll be eligible for arbitration, but I doubt he’ll get much more than 1M.

by Jay on Jul 25, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

So yeah, why not DFA Peralta at this point?

If he’s not worth anything at the end of July, is it really worth playing him all of August just on the slim hope that it all breaks perfectly right and we get some trinket?

by dgcambridge on Jul 25, 2010 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Once he clears waivers and we can’t dump his salary, yeah, I would almost say you can just DFA him right then and there.

The slim chance still remains that he goes on a tear the last six weeks, and we trade is 2011 club option for a trinket. I really don’t like our odds, though.
