Tomlin to be called up to start Tuesday
Hey ... it's Josh Tomlin! He gets the call over Carrasco, Huff and Gomez to make Tuesday's (spot?) start for Laffey against the Yankees. Tomlin has charged up though the system largely unsung and unranked, and he's been the poster boy for "Net."
He produces neither a great K rate nor a great GB rate, however, so there's some skepticism as to what he'll be able to do in the majors. It is worth noting, however, that he's spiked both of those rates in July, rising to 8.89 K/9 (normally around 6.00) with 47.3 % groundballs (usually in the high 30s).

Huff NEVER should’ve sent that tweet. I’m glad he did.

The lesson is that it’s ok to gang up on local loudmouths, but please do be careful on Twitter.

I’ve been fooling with this twitter for a while and I think we might be topping out. I need some better gimmicks or something. I’m not happy with only 408 followers.
I guess the standard thing is to follow 10,000 people, and then you un-follow them after they’ve reciprocated. The whole thing is pretty douchey.

I saw Tomlin pitch in Durham this past Thursday. Struck out 10 in 6 innings, most of which were swinging. He was hitting 90-91 on the gun with his fastball, and his breaking stuff was around 80 (for comparison, Shane Lindsay was hitting 94-95). He cruised through the first 5 innings, then gave up a BB, a double smashed down the left field line to Desmond Jennings and then a 2-run single consecutively, but quickly recovered to end the inning. I joked to my brother after strikeout 8 or so that the Indians should call this guy up, that he couldn’t be any worse than Huff/Laffey etc. I didn’t know how prophetic those words would be.
At least the calling up part.

I’m somewhat surprised that Gomez didn’t get the call after pitching well in his first start in Cleveland. Does Tuesday not fit with his turn in the rotation or did they just want to get a look at Tomlin instead?
i think they just expect some conflict around town with the yankees in and want someone around with some bar fighting chops

My guess is Peralta gets traded to the Yankees after hitting 2 HRs against them tonight. Otherwise we DFA Marte so the Pirates, Astros, or Orioles can pick him up.
