I think it’s pretty gross that Taco Bell markets itself as a “late-night” option. Do we really need staple late-night fast food options in America?
have you ever had the munchies at 2 am?
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.

Sure, everyone has been hungry at night. Do we really need a fast-food option that emphasizes this? Are we a country to craves cheesy gorditas at 2 am regularly enough to warrant a marketing campaign centered on that?
I suppose we are. And that is pretty vile.
For what it’s worth, I’ve had at least two advertising profs single “fourthmeal” out as brilliant.
Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.
Did you listen to the This American Life rerun this week? Covered the George Lois/Julian Koenig kerfuffle.
That sounds mildly interesting, but no.
Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.
Koenig is a very funny old man. Claims he popularized shrimp eating in America. And that he invented thumb wrestling.
If I can find this online I might have to give it a listen because Lois is the one I usually hear about – Koenig usually just gets a passing mention.
Must not be here for baseball either. Because that isn't what we're playing.
Apparently Lois is a huge lying scumbag who has taken credit for tons of stuff he didn’t do, from Esquire covers to the Think Small campaign to hanging out with Ernie Kovacs on the day he died to establishing New York magazine.
It’s available in the itunes store right now.
Agreed, means you’re fit enough to wait in the lines at cedar point while the fat people with handicapped passes skip it! Woot!

I’m trying to be more controversial.
I do sort of hate the “good defensive first baseman” thing. It seems the praise always gets heaped on these guys who can rake. And, really, all we’re saying is that these guys couldn’t play third and thus be inner-circle hall of famers.
Third basemen get pretty neglected in the HOF, held to nearly teh same standard as first basemen.
Besides, Tex actually played 3B perfectly well from my understanding, just not as well as Blalock. They even talked about shifting Blalock to 2B.
Probably you undervalue first base defense because you’ve never seen it in Cleveland.

STO notes that it was this day 4 years ago that the Indians traded this guy for Choo.
Is this the whale section?
It usually looks really good for a couple of innings at some point in each start. Not trying to be facetious-I think since he started using a greater array, it’s become obvious he’s a pretty talented pitcher stuff-wise. He just can’t “put it all together” in the Rick Manning parlance.
He was actually “putting it together” really well for a few starts in a row before he injured himself and went down for tommy john. Picked up a changeup in ST and was really dealing. I had huge hopes.

Hey guys. Watching on Yes Network. Paul O’neill reports that when all the Cleveland media were hounding CC before the game to ask him questions, most of the questions focused on Lebron James, and CC noticeably got tired of answering questions related to that subject.

Castrovince pointed out on Twitter that his strikeout in the second was A-Roid’s 1,799th of his career, making him 12th all-time. Only 17 more and he ties Dave Kingman. However, he is not the active strikeout leader. He’s third. Who’s ahead of him?

It was a bafflingly horrendous play. Not a hard catch. One of those classic running catches where the ball is thigh high and the fielder ends up with a half-dive that looks harder than it was.

What does that mean exactly? Granderson slid his foot directly into the bag. Asdrubal interrupted that progression (although not quite in time according to the replay) by sticking his glove in and tagging him. It looked like the tag was actually on the top of his foot rather than on the spikes because he looked safe on the play.

Well, the groundball was right at someone (the pitcher if I remember correctly? Wow) But he just ran to third seemingly on contact, so was immediately caught when the pitcher (I think) threw to third. Then instead of getting in a run-down and perhaps giving Brantley the chance to advance to third, he also turned around and ran back to second without stopping (and was nailed there).

I don’t understand Acta’s decision in the slightest:
1. SP whom you’re trying to trade has thrown 100+ pitches.
2. Your bullpen has been relatively hot of late.
3. Grandy can’t hit LHP, like, at all.

I don’t know, having Jake go eight against the Yankees actually seems like a stronger statement than seven innings with one run.
I would tend to think “he baffled the Yankees through seven” is a better sales pitch than “he hung with the Yankees for seven, and coughed it up in the 8th.”
by JulioBernazard on Jul 27, 2010 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions
Let’s face it – giving up 3 runs to the Yankees in 8 innings is a darn good outing. It’s not Jake’s fault that the Indians only scored 2. And let’s face it, everybody in that clubhouse remembers what happened to our bullpen during the last series where we faced the Yankees.

Posted too fast.
I think what people are missing here is:
- 8 IP, 3 ER against the Yankees is damned good.
- If you pull Westbrook after 7 IP and 99 pitches, you’re saying he didn’t have anything left at that point.
- #2 is a worse message than #1
Homers given up to Granderson are a) not cool and b) easily avoided.

If you’re that concerned about getting DeJesus-ed, then why not pull him after 6? You’ve got Teixeira, Rodriguez, and Cano, a more dangerous part of the lineup, coming up.
Uh… wrong. Cervelli, Gardner, and a scuffling Jeet were coming up next. I believe even the old CLE middle relief corps could’ve handled those dudes.

Whoops — might’ve read your post too quickly. Six IPs is too short to lure suitors. Seven is just right. Eight seems a little excessive.
Again, there was no reason for him to face Grandy.

So the perfect number is the one that is only utterly clear in hindsight? There are legit cases to be made for a couple different scenarios. And here’s another that I haven’t seen made, do we really believe any team’s scouts ignored what they’ve seen in the past and through 7 innings from Westbrook and just went “Nope!” after that 1 AB?
I’m glad we’re in agreement that the batters faced in the 8th don’t mean all that much to scouts. Since you’re saying his trade value would stay the same either way, pull him and win the game.
