Yep. Great trade indeed.

The Once and Future King

Yes, but it would be two years before he made any significant impact, and you know what that means.

Allowed time for Lady Gaga to release 17 different singles and albums?

Not a heist!

Also! Who did we really have to replace Broussard?

by Jay on Jul 27, 2010 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions

He was the mainstay of the team band, wasn’t he?

by YoDaddyWags on Jul 27, 2010 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

So which do you think was better Broussard for Choo or Fermin for Omar?

We gave up Reggie Jefferson too who unlike Broussard, IIRC, had a decent half-season or two left in him.

by jhon on Jul 29, 2010 1:07 AM EDT up reply actions

It’s a tricky question though.

by jhon on Jul 29, 2010 1:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Truth is we won’t know until Choo leaves – if he ever leaves.

I fear he’s as gone as Lebwrong.

by JulioBernazard on Jul 29, 2010 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Tough call. Omar was such a good fit for that club, but if we’re going to look mainly at a six-year window, Choo is probably the more valuable all-around player.

For me as a fan? Have to go with Omar. I love watching a great arm in RF, but hell, man … Omar.

Just don’t tell Keith law that

Where's your crown, KIng Nothing?

I don’t think KLaw would begrudge my having feelings as a fan.

The problems come only when you confuse your feelings for thoughts.

Eddie Taubensee for Kenny Lofton!

I know, not Shapiro.

Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!

Re: Choo’s BABIP

At what point does this stat quite being a detriment when talking about him and instead one that people hold in awe? Doing it for 3 consecutive seasons (albeit not FULL seasons) has to eliminate some of the “worry” of whether he can keep it up.

In looking up some stats for this topic, I noticed his BABIP has been .500 for the past month. Crazy.

by Toxicadam on Jul 28, 2010 9:25 AM EDT reply actions

I’ve seen various commentary that has noted Choo as one of the BABIP exceptions. His line drive rate has a lot to do with it.

by Roger Dorn on Jul 28, 2010 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions

BABIP is a skill for hitters, essentially a component of having a high batting average.

As a stat, it’s very unstable, so there’s always some doubt in there. But unlike for pitchers, who at the major league level basically will always regress to the league mean, hitters have their own individual “true BABIP” level, though it’s hard to discern over less than three seasons. Choo is legitimately a high-BABIP guy.

Hey guys the mighty Seatle Mariners are 39-62. Even with this guy running their front office:

hmm I think I like this one better though… Does anyone remember watching this show? I can’t recall if it was any good, for some reason I think yes, but don’t remember for sure.
