I’m surprised Acta’s argument is based on what the fans deserve as opposed to the injury risk, which is a much better argument. Marte might not be able to play dominoes for weeks.

He’ll likely have continue to have plenty of opportunities for dominoes and ceremonial first pitch duty over the next few weeks.

I like Acta and all, but he’s completely wrong here. 12 walks is making a mockery of the game, Joe Smith is making a mockery of the game, having Andy Marte available because you insist on starting the useless Jayson Nix is making a mockery of the game. Andy Marte retiring the side on 13 pitches is just fun.

I am secretly hoping for another blowout to see Choo pitch. I bet he can bring it.

It’s one thing to run Marte out there (and the fact that it was Marte means, honestly, that they don’t honestly care right now if he Cansecos himself while pitching). If Choo were to get hurt pitching mop-up in a blowout – now that would be bad.

Remember Mark Whiten striking out the side in a 1998 blow-out? He’s the only player in MLB history with only 1 IP and all three outs coming on Ks. He was so wild—and possibly imposing on the mound—that the batters wouldn’t come near the box.
