But he only learned this year? It’s as likely to be a fluke as it is the advanced competition.

Not on the 40-man but seems very likely to be lost if we don’t protect him this year. Our December roster just got crunchier.

Bring on the Rule 5 hysteria of which I am at least a carrier…

by stuart dean on Aug 20, 2010 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m a little lost on who we need to add to the 40-man after this year but I’m done worrying about 40 man roster crunches.

Ambriz, Germano, Huff, Laffey, Lewis, Hodges, Brown, Sutton… aren’t these guys all DFA’able? Maybe you hang on to Germano but I wouldn’t lose sleep.

I mean, it’s not like we’re signing a free agent for godssake.

by cheech99 on Aug 20, 2010 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d definitely protect Huff, Germano, Laffey and Lewis.

I think keeping Ambriz around all season may end up to be a moot point. Brown and Sutton can go, and I am pretty sure Hodges is already off the 40. Not sure about this, but he might be a MILB FA if we don’t roster him?

by westbrook on Aug 20, 2010 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed. Beyond Germano, there’s not a lot there.

Last appearance of a McAllister in the bigs was Sport, on Sept. 29, 1903 for the Tigers, but known and loved by all as a starting outfielder on the nonpareil 1899 Cleveland Spiders.

I’ll find out, but it seems that there were, at most, five balls in play.

by Jay on Aug 21, 2010 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

No errors behind him? And 4.2 IP—is he on a pitch count, or does a bonus kick in with a certain number of wins?

by YoDaddyWags on Aug 21, 2010 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

If he’s 7, it’s probably a 6-inning game.

Hmm. Things have changed. I pretty much iced all the time, but especially after I tore my labrum. No matter.

I iced and then tore my rotator cuff. Pitching limits and days off are most important.

he’s killing his bullpen, KILLING THEM

by world dictator on Aug 22, 2010 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Evidently, he is the bullpen.

The update line is 4.1 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 1 walk, 11 strikeouts — over both games of a double-header.

Evidently, there’s a three-inning max for pitchers. So he started the first game, went 3.0 IP, then was brought in to relieve in the second game with two outs in the 3rd. He finished the 3rd and pitched the 4th, at which point the game was called for rain. He wasn’t voluntarily removed by his manager from either game.

He only has a fastball, although he claims to have a splitter, too, so that’s something to watch for in future updates. Only five balls put in play, reportedly all grounders. One of the hits was an infield single, the other snuck through the infielders on the ground.

by odradek on Aug 24, 2010 1:17 AM EDT up reply actions

From what I’ve heard and remember, it’s not easy to learn, and there are so few guys that did it in the first place that it’s hard to find someone to teach it.
