Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Justin Masteron will take Mitch Talbot's turn in the rotation this Saturday, in what probably will be Masterson's final appearance of the season.

The Indians had set Masterson a limit of 180 innings for the season, and already he has 173, following Monday's seven-inning appearance in relief of Talbot. A successful start on Saturday will leave Masterson very close to his limit for the season.

The Indians originally had said that they preferred for Masterson to spread those last 14 innings out over the remaining three weeks of the season, rather than making two more starts and then sitting out the final two weeks, but obviously that won't happen now.

Talbot is expected to miss only this one start, returning to the rotation late next week.

That’s cool. I would have gone the 2 more starts route anyways, instead of the pen—since that is where his future looks to be.

Nice. I don’t mind this at all. (Not that my opinion matters to the Indians anyway).

I wonder why the pressure to get Talbot back in there this year…

by supermarioelia on Sep 15, 2010 10:06 PM EDT reply actions

Why the pressure not to?

by mcrose on Sep 16, 2010 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think there’s pressure, I just think he’s not really hurt. The game stories said that he had trouble getting loose, and Acta yanked him after three bad PA out of an abundance of caution.

While I believe you, Dr. Andrews laughing and rubbing his hands together in the corner is mildly disconcerting.

They’ve already scheduled the surgery. They just don’t want to give an advantage to the Royals by letting them know of the injury.

Why wouldn’t we want to give the Royals the advantage? Can’t believe those jerkoffs still get the draft pick tiebreaker over us …

by Jay on Sep 16, 2010 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Shapiro knows only one way to play the game: all out, to win. And besides, we’ve already established the draft position doesn’t matter.

“We” have? Who is included in we?

I, for one, never conceded to that claim.

draft position matters

by APV on Sep 17, 2010 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

1. Would you rather miss with the 10th pick or miss with the 5th pick?

2. Would you rather have the 5th pick in a draft with four studs, or the 10th pick in a draft with nine studs?

by Jay on Sep 18, 2010 8:44 AM EDT up reply actions

(1) Doesn’t much matter. I guess from a cover-your-ass position, a GM would rather miss with number ten. A bit less conspicuous.

(2) Tenth pick. It means you have probably won more games.
