Crap! It looks like Konerko’s hurt. Andruw Jones is pinch hitting for him.

It’s all good. They get Putz back this week too. Didn’t take long to over-take the BoSox, did it?

Not to say that the Red sox will win out, but the season ends after 162 games.

Sure. But I’d hate to see him get hurt before the Red Sox commit more money to him.

Papelbon just set a new career high for pitches in a single game. You should see all the long faces at Fenway – beautiful!!

Here’s a fun fact for your Twins fetish.
Since 2003, the Indians won have three times as many playoff games as the Twins.
Since 2002, Shapiro’s entire tenure, they’ve won the same number.
Because the Twins front office, you see, doesn’t know how to build a team that isn’t a bunch of chokers.
Now whether that’s because they don’t use sabermetrics or because they do, I have no idea.

You’re so proud of that you hadda post it twice, huh?
We’ll talk again in November. And it’s not just the Twins, I’m really, really, envious of the Rays too.

I’m just saying, they lose in the postseason, like, constantly.

Hammy saying that Shapiro said yesterday that he’s not happy with the defense at SS this year. And that he’s better than Peralta but below average… in a perfect world he’d be playing 2b.
In another bizarro Peralta situation, I wonder a little bit if we wouldn’t do better with Donald at shortstop, so that both players would be in their best comfort zone.

Yea, I saw that and it was a terrible call.

CWS with a four spot with two out in the top of the ninth – all charged to Papelbon. Jenks unavailable, so the WS’s are going with Thorton, fresh off the DL. This might put the Blue Jays within striking distance of the BoSox.

I know it’s not fair, but every time I see “J. Brown” in the lineup, “Running On Empty” runs through my mind.

Did you see the Pluto piece on the Indians prospects this AM? Doesn’t sound promising, does it?

old news at this point…the biggest long-term concern on his lost is LaPorta. If he sucks, well….that would suck

What was more intriguing is the players he didn’t talk about: Chiz, Weglarz, Kipnis, Phelps. All this gloom and doom isn’t like Pluto.

Chiz, Weglarz, Kipnis
These three are more important now than ever

i should add…Weglarz, aside from the injury issues, had a quiet very good season. It would be great to see him come back and start 2011 quickly. What is nice about Chiz and Kipnis is that both the scouterazi and the fangraphgoofs seem to be talking a lot about them.

Similar K rates and K:BB ratio, Gomez era a run lower, but they also had similar batting average against. Don’t know how the other numbers stack up.

Gomez, when he controls it, just has better stuff. And still has some projectability in his frame.

Yes, but the Mariners are 40th in team OPS. Out of 14.

I was thinking about a contest of misery between Seattle and Cleveland. The Tribe has a better offense, and some hope for the near-term, but Los Marineros have Felix Hernandez. I think the Indians are in worse shape.
We had a Cy Young winner, and then another. The club achieved little with their assistance, and it ended badly. The likeliest outcome for the Mariners is that Felix either departs or saddles them with a horrific contract obligation.

I agree that it does not bode well for them, but it’s better to have a young number-one starter than not to have a number-one starter at all. In the race out of the muck, the Mariners have the advantage. They have a much better pitching staff (or, as their splits would indicate, they have Safeco) and, despite the presence of Jose Lopez, they might have the better team. The real millstone around their neck is called Ichiro.
I think Ichiro casts a psychological pall over that team. Hafner doesn’t appear to do that with the Tribe.
I’ll take the psychological pall over the runs-created pall.
