Ok, it’s a big albatross contract, sure, but if they are a big market team with an owner who will throw money around, why does that matter for their fans? In the immediate term, they did improve their lineup, didn’t they?
In the new Geico commercial, Marte sings "Let me be myself" on Wedge's front lawn (with the cavemen).

Jeff Mathis and his career 53 OPS+ is now the starting C, Brandon Wood has yet to materialize and they don’t have a DH.

I love how the writer blames his inability to hit in Anaheim on the prowess of the Angel pitchers. Not the 4 hr time difference, or boisterous crowd noise, or any other number of factors. Because as we all know, he never faces any good pitching anywhere else. Brilliant.

The first two paragraphs are just priceless:
Predictably, the Angels’ acquisition of Vernon Wells at the expense of Mike Napoli and Juan Rivera has the critics howling. They do that largely because that’s what they’re paid to do, and you can’t really fault a person for that. It’s the carping of fans that is somewhat baffling.
Predictably, the Angels’ beat guy, paid by MLB, is howling about those critical of the trade made by his team. He does this largely because that’s what he is paid to do, and you can’t really fault a person for that. It’s the carping of the teams own fans that make his position somewhat baffling.
The Angels just landed a three-time All-Star at 32, with four years on his contract, for two players who might not have had starting jobs but will get shots to play every day in their new environment. You have to be reaching hard not to like that.
The Angels landed a past-his prime former All-Star well past the wrong side of 30 and his long-term, over-priced (even by his own estimation) contract. And they traded useful parts for that guy. You don’t have to not reach hard to not not like that.
But, but, but… he hit the 5th longest HR in the AL last year!
Wut?

That intro is incredibly dumb. Who in the national media, exactly, is paid to proclaim that the deal is awful for the Angels but brilliant for the Jays? Do all national pundits and non-Angels bloggers work for or root for the Blue Jays?
I’m on it. Guy came in last night to our rural emerg with a classic subarachnoid. CT confirmed it, neurosurg is on the case.

I’m glad I looked that up, otherwise I’d have had nightmares about spiders burrowing into my skin all night.

Maybe he means the Canadian national media. Those hosers.

Funny, yesterday I was going to type “Toronto could now deal Napoli for a lesser guy at a bigger position of need and still win this trade” — and they have.
and in doing so filled a need for Texas…whoops Angels
