Antonetti: Indians' payroll will go up next season | indians.com: News
It should come as no surprise that the Tribe payroll will be going up next season, as not are just a couple contracts coming off the books, but a lot of the key players will be eligible for arbitration. The arbitration list is headed by Justin Masterson, who will be eligible for the first time, and Asdrubal Cabrera, who will be getting a big raise. Signing Cabrera, Masterson, and Carlos Santana to long-term deals should be one of the offseason priorities. Shin-Soo Choo is also eligible, though I doubt anything gets done given what happened last winter in negotiations.
Yankees-Tigers series opener suspended
The tenor of the ALDS between the Yankees and Tigers changed when the forecast changed last night. Both CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander had thrown 20-some pitches before the rain came, so that means both teams will only have their aces on the mound once in the series, even if the ALDS goes five games. The rainout means that there will be no off-days in the series, so both teams will need to use four starters. The Tigers will go with Fister in today's continuation of Game 1, and he'll pitch Game 5 if there is one, with Verlander pitching on Sunday. Sabathia will be held back until Game 3, meaning that A.J. Burnett will get a start in the series.
Moore, Shoppach lead Rays to blanking of Rangers | TBO.com
Matt Moore dominated the Rangers in Arlington, allowing only two hits and striking out six in seven innings. And another Maddon hunch, starting Kelly Shoppach, paid off as well: the former Tribe catcher hit two home runs, and accounted for five of the Tampa runs. Shoppach had really struggled this season, hitting .176/.268/.339 in 253 PA, but he was 2-for-5 with a home run and three walks in 8 career plate appearances against Wilson, and that held true in this game as well.

Detroit should win tonight, Nova is very overrated and isn’t Matt Moore. Also, over/under on James Shields IP tonight: 8.1.
We won’t be signing either one to a big-league deal. Not this year.

Kyle Lohse is cruising. 5 IP, 58 pitches, 3 H, 3 K.
As MLB would like us to remember, “you can’t script October.”
The playoffs are not the regular season, which is why just making the playoffs makes you a legitimate title contender.

That was fast. Larussa usually is quicker with his hook.
