On the surface, I don’t like it. For those of you who want us to make more moves based on scouting, this one is for you.
The guy has put up pretty good numbers in the minors, but for whatever its worth he’s somewhat struggled in the two most pitcher friendly parks in the majors (Petco/Oakland). I guess it can’t hurt to see what he’ll do and all we gave up was some of our relief depth.

We have more BP depth than OF depth. Don’t read anything into it beyond that – I can see us being forced to use Cunningham next year, not so with Burns.
He’s out of options I think, so that would mean the Indians are committing to carrying him on the 25-man roster.
There’s a comment on the Padres blog that he is out of options.
I guess we’ll see if Juan Diaz is #1 on the DFA list.
Just by looking at his history, I find it hard to believe that he’d have another option. He played in the majors and the minors in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. And I don’t think he was outrighted at any time.
I think it’s a sensible trade. As was pointed out, we have very little OF depth and an abundance of it in the pen. Burns put up good numbers in the minors, but his stuff isn’t that great (should fit Petco well though) and Cunningham despite his MLB struggles has hit very well in minors. The fact that he’s out of options hurts a bit, but he seems like an okay fielder and I’m more comfortable with him as our 4th outfielder than our other internal options.
Buy low sell high. Burns does not have mlb reliever stuff. Trade the crazy canuck to Toronto!!! Although Diaz seems like a utility inf at best. Why is he on the 40?

Definitely a slur. Trying to associate someone with the sport of hockey is something I thought this country had moved beyond.

Think about it this way…Cory Burns was probably 4th in line at best waiting to join the Indians bullpen. And for him we got a guy who is likely to stick on our 25-man roster. That is a win.
Absolutely – my comment was directed at my own irrational fan-phobia

Renowned Indians hater Keith Law even thinks we got the better of the deal, says Cunningham is a 4th OF
