Gio Gonzalez Dealt to Nationals
The A's will be reportedly getting four prospects, including RHP A.J. Cole and RHP Brad Peacock, the Nats' #3 and #4 prospects. At first glance, this is an equivalent or even better haul than the Indians sent to Colorado for Ubaldo Jimenez.

Oakland may not be done either – the Red Sox, who were reportedly in on Gonzalez, but refused to counter the Nationals’ offer, may be in line to acquire Oakland closer Andrew Bailey.
The reasoning behind Oakland’s current moves – the tall “two-headed monster” of LAA & TEX, both of whom can spend many, many times more than the A’s, who are still searching for their long-term home. Tough times to be an A’s fan, for sure.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
That and their screwed up stadium situation. Until that gets resolved, being competitive appears untenable to management. At least they recognize the futility and are building for the future, whenever that may come. Could be 3-5 years off. Ugh, in the meantime fans should probably focus on the Raiders or the Warriors or creating iPad applications.

Just was about to look into these 4 guys (as I said in the Beltran thread—I hadn’t heard of any of them) and I’m surprised that they’re 3 and 4 on the Nats’ prospect list.
That’s a ridiculous haul for Gio.
