Around SBN: Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant's Post-Game 5 Outfits

Tony Lastoria has a nice preview of the Indians players likely to be considered in the draft. "Vlad" at Bucsdugout has a great preview of other players available in the draft. My prediction is the Indians lose two pitchers, take no one, none of it with much consequence.

Pujols to Angels for +$250M/10, full no-trade clause. No doubt he’ll be the best 42-year old(ish) DH ever.

So does this make Morales (still a question mark health wise) or Trumbo available?

by The Grimace on Dec 8, 2011 10:15 AM EST up reply actions

Gotta figure it absolutely does.

Fear the Fedora.

by MooneysRebellion on Dec 8, 2011 10:17 AM EST up reply actions

Morales is a non-tender candidate according to MLBTR, take that however you will.

by The Grimace on Dec 8, 2011 10:21 AM EST up reply actions

He’d be a damn good fit at 1B. Damn good.

Fear the Fedora.

by MooneysRebellion on Dec 8, 2011 10:26 AM EST up reply actions

I’d certainly be more interested in Morales than Trumbo

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:31 AM EST up reply actions

Trumbo looks a lot like Shoppach, without playing catcher

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:32 AM EST up reply actions

If Torii Hunter wasn’t making $18M, I’d be interested in him as well.

by Ryan on Dec 8, 2011 10:31 AM EST up reply actions

My laughing drew the attention of my co-workers. Oops.

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

If I’m not mistaken, the proper conjugation is:

Fanshot, Fanshari, Fanshat, Fanshatus

by Harry Doyle on Dec 8, 2011 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

Looks like the offseason got much more interesting. I wonder if Prince Fielder is going to land in St. Louis now.

by Ryan on Dec 8, 2011 10:17 AM EST up reply actions

I still think the Cubs will push hard for Fielder…he could hit a lot of HRs in Wrigley

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:18 AM EST up reply actions

Also, at least Vernon Wells will not be the highest-paid player on the club…barely.

by Ryan on Dec 8, 2011 10:21 AM EST up reply actions

Indians 40-man is full, so no picks for them in the major league phase

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:06 AM EST reply actions

From Tony:

Wow. That may have been the quickest MLB Phase of the #Rule5Draft ever. 12 players picked. No #Indians selected.

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:15 AM EST reply actions

BA has the results. Looks like no Indians were taken.

by Ryan on Dec 8, 2011 10:16 AM EST reply actions

Wow, Aaron Poreda sure fell fast.

by westbrook on Dec 8, 2011 1:37 PM EST up reply actions

Nobody wants us….

by hans on Dec 8, 2011 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

They can’t have Nobody.

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Dec 8, 2011 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

Everybody would have wanted Nobody. The Astros could have traded the rights to Nobody for a NTBNL.

by westbrook on Dec 8, 2011 11:42 PM EST up reply actions

Seems like the Indians need to take a shot at an AAA outfielder though in the AAA round.

Fear the Fedora.

by MooneysRebellion on Dec 8, 2011 10:18 AM EST reply actions

Indians lost Marty Popham to Twins in AAA portion of draft…expect him to pitch a shutout in Cleveland come September 2013

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:21 AM EST reply actions

That Bucsdugout guy actually got 6 of the rule 5 guys drafted right (if I’m counting correctly), which seems absurdly good prognosticating

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 10:24 AM EST reply actions

Bucsdugout is a pretty knowledgeable blog.

by APV on Dec 8, 2011 11:05 AM EST up reply actions

OH, CMON!

@Joelsherman1 #Yankees close to signing 1-time big #Indians prospect Adam Miller to minor lge deal. RHP was derailed by finger issues. Yanks see as rlvr

nothing official, but hearing they’re close is enough to make me sick. he’ll have earned his twitter handle, that’s for sure.

They see him as a reliever? No, really? What foresight!

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Dec 8, 2011 12:24 PM EST up reply actions

At this point, I’m kind of surprised they even see him as a pitcher.

by callmrplow on Dec 8, 2011 1:57 PM EST up reply actions

I’m just surprised they even see him. Him not existing and all.

by ahowie on Dec 8, 2011 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

See who?

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Dec 8, 2011 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

I can’t begrudge this guy anything, even signing with New York (AL). His career was derailed by a freak injury, possibly caused by poor medical advice (if you believe Chuck). If he can make an extra 10K by going to New York (or anywhere else), then he ought to grab it.

Now, if it comes out that he went to New York for less money because he believed in the Yankee Way, that’d be a different thing.

by afh4 on Dec 8, 2011 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

i agree with you. it’s just a surface reaction that if he happens to have some success after this long road, it’s going to be with them, and not us.

by rolub on Dec 8, 2011 1:10 PM EST up reply actions

Honestly, isn’t signing with the Yankees something of a desperation move for a guy in Miller’s position? Not good with pitching prospects, not good with rehabs, not known for giving opportunities to unproven guys. He may not have had other options.

by Jay on Dec 8, 2011 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

Sure. So, maybe the 10K extra is the only 10K available.

by afh4 on Dec 8, 2011 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

I’m saying, I don’t think there is an extra 10K.

by Jay on Dec 8, 2011 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Well, if a bunch of guys offer you 0 apples and then I offer you one apple, is that receiving an extra apple?

I guess not. Caught me.

by afh4 on Dec 8, 2011 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

Are we gonna split hairs here?

by Jay on Dec 8, 2011 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

Certainly not. I think we have the same perspective on the situation.

by afh4 on Dec 8, 2011 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

As soon as I typed that, I thought, “Well, it is the internet after all.”

Hitler.

by Jay on Dec 8, 2011 10:56 PM EST up reply actions

I assume this is a rule 34 of Hitler and Adam Miller.

by Chemo on Dec 9, 2011 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

How many hairs are we talking about? Five? Ten?

If we start with five hairs and then …

by emd2k3 on Dec 9, 2011 1:55 AM EST up reply actions

Can’t believe the Angels didn’t take anyone in the rule 5.
