1. I hear the Indians are talking to Kenny Lofton about coming to spring training to tutor Michael Brantley and some of the other outfielders. He also will work on base running. He will join his former manager Mike Hargrove, who will be around all season as a special assistant to team president Mark Shapiro.

I guess the bullet points make it seem like a quicker and easier read, but yes they aren’t traditional bullet pointing.
But they aren’t bulleted. He numbers it and sometimes breaks up thoughts through the numbers.
I know newspaper columnists get a lot of criticism that’s not really fair and, frankly, Pluto seems the best we’ve got going for us. But, this numbering thing, it’s not even that I want to criticize it, it just seems…baffling.
the numbering is tied to Pluto’s interest in Biblical numerology

The numbering works for me…
What’s in it for Lofton to play catch with a couple Cleveland outfielders? And how much does this really help anyway?

Who cares? If the choice is to have Kenny in the organization or to not, I’d always choose to have him, however meaningless the role. But he is my all-time favorite player, so it’s an easy choice for me.
This just makes the decision to not bring back Kenny for 2008 that much more perplexing to me. The organization is apparently not anti-Lofton, and it’s not like we upgraded from him with Michaels, Francisco, and Gutierrez. I know it’s water under the bridge now, but it just seems a little odd.
Come on, four billion!
I think the hope was that Francisco or Gutierrez would prove more valuable in the long run, and they didn’t want to stunt their development.

I don’t think it was that as much as they already had Dellucci under contract and they were both suited for the same role. It was probably the wrong choice in hindsight, but in hindsight, Kenny wouldn’t have saved 2008 anyway.

I’d rather have Kenny as the backup CFer this year than the schlub we’re going to run out there.
