Something Weird On Twitter
It looks to me like TribeInsider, which is the Indians PR twitter, was responding to a CAA_Baseball tweet that asserted the scoreless appearance fact as a great thing about Chris Perez. CAA_Baseball is the Twitter account of the agency that represents Perez. TribeInsider pointed out that Sipp has also done this.
Here's where it gets odd: someone replies from the ChrisPerez54 account (Perez's official account) and tells TribeInsider, cordially, that Sipp's irrelevant b/c he's not a CAA client.
The corresponding CAA_Baseball tweet is already gone. Obvious question is, does Chris Perez's agent actually run his Twitter account? That's the obvious explanation here—meaning to reply from the CAA_Baseball account but forgot to log out of the ChrisPerez54 account. And, of course, that wouldn't be shocking—many athlete Twitter accounts are obviously run by PR people. One of the reason's Perez is popular is that it comes across as considerably more authentic. Alternatively, was Chris Perez making some weird joke?
Not a whole lot to see here but a little odd, nonetheless.

If it was meant to come from the CAA_Baseball account, wouldn’t it be odd to add the “@CAA_Baseball”?
Yeah, to expand, if somebody just hit reply to the TribeInsider tweet it’s going automatically add an “@” for everyone in the original tweet except for the writer.
Huh. I must have conveniently forgotten that.
I still think the person would notice “@CAA_Baseball” popping up instead of “@ChrisPerez54”, but maybe that’s just me being hopeful that people aren’t that dumb.
The way I took it at face value was just Perez making a joke that, since Sipp isn’t a client, CAA has no interest in how well he does. They’re plugging a client instead of making an actual statement about baseball.
Chris Perez controls CAA Baseball’s Twitter account. Case closed.

Can’t blame CAA. Chris Perez controls everything.

In other twitter news, C_M_Cook is a bit of a pig.

I think this is being overanalyzed, boys. I think Perez was just pointing out (just as a friendly jab to Bart Swain) that Tony Sipp isn’t a CAA client.
They may be able to, and this case may be one of those times. But I’d be willing to bet that 99% of the tweets are from Perez himself. CAA may be the ones retweeting all the posts from people that are praising CPez. That has never seemed like Chris would do it.
Normally I’d chalk this up to CAA is behind his account. But Perez has tweeted some odd stuff. The “suck it” comes to mind.

That might be the public image they are trying to craft. And successfully so, I might add.

That seems the most realistic to me. Perez can tweet, but his agency reserves the right to use his account for promoting their client, or for damage control if he happens to say anything offensive. It seems like that’s how it would probably work for any professional athlete who wants to use Twitter.

I think they are probably able to post for him, but I doubt everything posted to that twitter is written by them.

The whole thing is dumb, obviously, but the original CAA post is inaccurate as it makes it seem like Perez has done something no other Indians pitcher has done in ten years when, in fact, Perez’s own teammate did it before Perez (since Sipp pitches the 8th). It’s lousy PR by CAA, however you cut it.
Are you (or someone with a personal account) going to inquire? With Ryan and Jay (and Evan) foraying into interviews, might as well become investigative journalists as well.
Or maybe Pure_Rage can do it.

Nothing wrong with asking. I’ll do so. In this case, might not be able to get very far; they’re likely to ignore inquiries.
I simply can not buy the idea that Perez never tweets for himself – not after the Castro comments.
But if we’re applying Occam’s Razor here, it certainly points to the agency making that particular tweet. If Perez were being cheeky, I doubt it’d have been removed so quickly.
And as we all well know, there was never a revolution before Twitter
