Game 24: Indians 8, Royals 2
First things first: Kyle Davies was spectacularly awful. He grooved some pitches that I could have gotten hits off of. The ball that Santana hit deep into the right field seats would have been right at atop a plate of spaghetti. Davies has good stuff, but he doesn't belong in the majors right now. The look on his face after Duncan took him deep (0:15) was priceless.
But give the Indians credit for taking full advantage of a pitcher who doesn't belong in the big leagues. They hit four more home runs, including an impressive Grady Sizemore solo shot; he hooked a pitch that was knee-high and on the outer half of the plate over the wall in right-center. Shin-Soo Choo also hit an impressive homer to straight-away center into the teeth of a strong cross-wind. It seemed as if the Indians didn't miss a single mistake.
Fausto Carmona rebounded from his poor start in Minnesota, giving up two runs, both coming in his seventh and final inning. Carmona had a brief lapse to start the second, but a mound visit from pitching coach Tim Belcher seemed to fix whatever was causing the problem. He wasn't dominant with the sinker, nor did he strike out a lot of batters, but all the same he had little trouble with the Royals.
The Indians have now won ten home games in a row, the first time that's happened since 1996. They're 4.5 games ahead of Kansas City and Detroit, and get the Tigers at home next. Alex White will be the first Tribe first round pick since Paul Shuey to appear in the majors within two years of being drafted when he makes his MLB debut Saturday.

| Highest WPA | Lowest WPA | ||
| Carmona | .194 | LaPorta | -.034 |
| Choo | .102 | Babybrera | -.022 |

Here’s hoping we can take at least 2 of 3 from Detroit. With Alex White and Jeanmar Gomez pitching, it may not be easy.
We are 12-0 against teams entering the series on a 3 game or more losing streak. Boston – swept, Seattle – swept, Baltimore – swept, Royals – swept. I expect nothing less than a sweep here.
I live in PA and rarely get to actually watch a game, but I always look forward to checking the box score/recap on LGT, and tonight I was especially excited to see the outcome. Let’s go Whitey! If he can live up to Shuey I will be happy…what a great RP was Paul.
MLB.tv is worth every penny in Northeast PA right now.

TV, as you know it, is completely different.

Not so sure about that. We switched to Verizon Fios a month ago, and the amount of content available in HD, on demand, with DVR, etc., is just absurd even without anything else. I’m not sure how much this will add to the mix. Mainly, it gives me every Indians game in full widescreen, generally approaching HD resolution.
I guess I see the Roku channels evolving quickly enough that you have Hulu, Netflix, and whatever else to get movies and shows. You get a free digital converter box for local channels and the need for cable goes away.
Then again, maybe I’m just tired of paying Time Warner for 200 channels when I watch 5 or 6 and am just packing my escape pod from cable.

I looked at Roku a bit ago and then checked it again now, I didn’t think they had MLB.tv. Are you streaming from your PC or something?
Il faut d'abord durer.
The Roku doesn’t stream from a PC, which would defeat most of its purpose. It streams directly from the Internet. It’s an exceptionally simple device, actually, not much bigger than a portable hard drive and about two ounces.
You can register your specific Roku box with your MLB.com account, and from that point on, it just works. No radio overlay yet, but other than that, it’s great.
Thanks, interesting. Weird that they don’t advertise it on Roku’s website (at least that I saw). I’m bitter that I can’t get MLB.tv over my Xbox, since you can stream most other major things over that.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Yeah, I’d definitely get MLB.tv if I could do it over Xbox Live

That’s because the Royals GM is running KC as the Home for Failed and Wayward Ex-Braves.

Excited to see Alex White, though I reiterate my concerns that he’s not ready (especially on the heels of witnessing the Kyle Davies Experience).
There’s something that AP photo captures that’s so striking as they leave the dugout – energy, determination, focus, quiet confidence – whatever it is, LaPorta, Choo, and O-Cab are wearing it just like it’s part of the uniform.

Choo: ::Must be focused to this task; tripping on dugout stairs would be a great embarrassment to my entire country::
Cabrera: ::I remember the days when I could take two steps at once::
LaPorta: ::Ok, I’m running up the stairs with a tall, frosty glass, filled to the brim (O’Doul’s or Sharps — maybe Clausthaler?) It’s in my hands… I am not going to spill it… I am not going to spill it::

Is that the hand slightly inside the jersey, doing a little heartbeat pump thing?
"Spring Training wins are good for the soul."
Really? I hadn’t noticed that. Is it the whole team or just 3 or 4 guys?

Royals Authority: Kyle Davies is Historically Awful
Make no mistake. It is quite possible that every time Kyle Davies takes the mound we are witnessing the worst starting pitcher in the history of the game. Never before has a pitcher so awful been given so many chances.[tip: don’t read the comments]

Good joke aside, the parameters were 700 IP, 90% starts; Yett doesn’t qualify under those conditions. Lots of guys, obviously, have been worse than Davies; they’ve just never been allowed to pitch in a rotation so consistently.

After watching him and Francis in back to back nights, I wondered how the Royals were above .500 at all.
There must be zero deception in Davies stuff. Our hitters were just teeing off on him like he were batting practice. No respect for his offspeed pitch or curve (which looked nice). The few times he looked good is when someone like Shelly Duncan swung at a terrible pitch.
