New Caps - Aye or Nay
After the first few games, I have noticed some disagreements on the new alternate home cap, so enter the poll zone:
And just for reference, here is the road cap (not alternate):
I personally like the red cap and the new road one as well. I also like the new uniforms. Was bummed to see the last of the script Cleveland go, but the block Cleveland seems more traditional to me.

I’m not completely against the idea of a red cap in general, but they feel tacked on to a uniform that they don’t go well with. I agree with emd2k3 from the balls in play thread that the socks should be red. Plus, like I pointed out over there, the red in the caps is not the same shade of red that’s in the logo on the shirt. It looks very awkward, and I’m sort of stunned that they couldn’t make the darn thing match.
It’s probably the same red, but with different fabrics and different lighting conditions, hard to match.

I wish it was a lighting issue, but in every picture I can find from the April 3 game, the difference really is this jarring. Plus, the sleeves and socks are blue, and the batting helmets are too. Throw in that the fonts on the caps and jerseys are completely different, which already bugged me when they wore these with the midnight block C caps, and these uniforms are just a dischordant mess.

while the Rangers do wear red, the Tribe has worn red on many occasions throughout the years as well.
1904 – home, 1928 – home had a red wahoo, 1933-35 had red striping on the top, 1936, 1938-1944 home had red C on iniform and cap, 1944-1949 home and road had red lettering, 1951-1962 home and road also had red lettering, 1963-1969 home and road introduced red sleeving and red caps as well as the lettering, 1970 home and road red lettering only, 1972 home and road red lettering and caps, 1974 red top, 1975-1977 red top or red top and pants, and from 1978 to today, most of the uniforms have had some form of red as an accent.
So obviously our red predates the Rangers /sarc
Nice job but you forgot the piping.
Texas Rangers? Um, no I don’t believe they currently have a uniform with that type of combination.

That is a huge improvement! Throw in red piping, make the hats the same rich tribe red as the sleeves, maybe add a cream border around the blue C (or make the C entirely cream) and that would be one of the all-time great tribe uniforms! But just the simple switch to red sleeves makes a world of difference.

I prefer this one with the “I” that you can still get from mlb.com, but is it gone completely.from the field? The “C” at first reminded me of the Chicago Cubs when it came out, although I guess the font is different, but I’ll get used to it.
As for the four you mention, nay to the red cap, yay to the others.
I don’t love the C for the reason you mention: I think at least four teams are now featuring “C” on a hat—the Twins, the Cubs, the Reds, and the Indians. I do not want to have the Wahoo discussion again (that is an order), but if they are uncomfortable with Wahoo on the cap, regardless of how you or I or anyone else feels about the logo, they ought to change it. It’s silly and boring to not be able to use any kind of iconography on the uniform.
I love both of the Block C caps. It may seem odd to some considering that they’ve had the Wahoo cap since 1984 and it’s very iconic, but historically the team has had a C on it’s cap for the larger majority of its existence. They had Wahoo inside a C from 54 to 57—which is a pretty sweet hat, but it looks better with script jerseys than the new block letters. I find the new block lettering refreshing. I think the fans need to put the 90s out of their heads and an the new, yet classic, look should facilitate that.
Yeah, good points. The new red cap is sort of a combination of the ’68 and some of the late 70s/early 80s caps with the block C. Both of which were pretty sharp looking caps.
If there is a color difference (and I don’t think there is actually) between the uniform lettering and the caps it is due to the sheen of the fabrics/stitching, etc. but they obviously need to coordinate some of the other elements such as under shirts, sox,, stirrups, etc.; they should all be red or with red piping/banding.

This.
Granted, the team sucked during much of the ‘chop-block’ type days, but it’s unlike any other type (block or script) that is used in MLB.

BANG.
Same simple concept, but at least not as generic.

Cool. That would be an awesome sleeve patch. I like it even though I’m not especially fond of that chop-a-block font. It would be a really cool jersey with just a big red “C” or script “I” (but different than the most recent iteration which was an awkward looking thing) on the left breast.

There’s a pie/cake joke here somewhere…

Absolutely agree. I especially like the rare blue version.

This is the hat I wear—picked it up in Cooperstown—and I love it.
Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

I really like the red hats on their own but, as some have said, I don’t like the way they look with the cream “faux-back” jerseys. In general, I’m starting to think they kinda dropped the ball on those jerseys entirely. I know they were going for simplicity, but they lack personality. Maybe, like with the new Cavs jerseys, I’m conflating the plain jersey with mediocrity and it’s mor of a psychological construct, but I like these jerseys less and less since the day they were introduced.
I think the best overall ensemble is the blue jerseys with the all blue wahoo cap. Would really like to see a blue script jersey with block C cap combo. Regardless, I’ll continue to rock the new red cap since, for some reason, I’ve been wanting the Indians to do a red cap since I was a kid.
I’m the only one who liked the Script I right?

Liked it, didn’t love it. Liked the script “Indians”.

Random cap logo idea. I should clarify that I would never advocate changing the name from Indians. Also, adding this type of logo would have to done only after winning a World Series (or two) in order to stop the masses from hyperventilating. But this type of logo would be an interesting way to acknowledge our rich and long baseball history. As an alternative, alternative uniform cap, it would be another marketing angle and a new paraphernalia line for the Indians Team Shop. Obviously, they would have to change it from the Richmond University logo, but I was envisioning something simple like it.
What do you think? Do most hate the idea?
UR’s logo looks more like a flea than a spider. I cringe every time I see it, and given that I live in Richmond, I cringe a lot.
As for the red block C caps, my biggest problem is the lack of contrast between the background and the logo. Even trimming the C in white would make it better. Dark blue on red doesn’t please the eye.
They’re picking a new logo, but all the options I’ve seen are cringe worthy.
