I’m all for the Man Shitty hate. You’ve lost me on the Serie A fandom, though. I think it’s by far the worst soccer of the major European leagues. I’d put England, France, Germany and Spain all easily above it in no particular order.

Serie A is fantastic. Mostly defensive football, which I’m a defensive guy. I think the EPL is probably the most exciting. Haven’t watched much of Germany or France. Spain…meh, it is boring because there are only two teams worth a damn.

Crew for MLS and Tottenham for EPL. Not a big follower of any other teams. I really like about half of Barca’s squad but the rest of those guys are total c**ts so it makes it hard. I have a casual soft spot for the underdog-type teams in La Liga like Valencia (big David Villa team) and Atletico because the TV deal makes the league so unfair to teams not named Barca or Real Madrid. I’m creeping towards the Lille bandwagon in France.

I personally do not like the Yids that much, but respect that over let’s say any of my other rival teams such as Mancs or the Chavskis, or even worse, the Bitters.

I think the Lille bandwagon is pretty full right now, but there may be a few seats on there next year once Hazard and Gervinho are gone.

How did you get into MLS? That is one of my goals for the summer but I have yet to figure out a compelling reason to care.

by jakesinger777 on May 23, 2011 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I went to a DC United-Seattle game. Football was a lot better than I expected

by Gradyforpresident on May 23, 2011 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

As simple as living in Columbus for the majority of the year while I’m at school. Apparently the Spurs are looking at both Hazard and Gervinho, I don’t think either really fit our needs much as we need more of a central forward and both of those guys play up top but more on the sides. I wouldn’t be opposed to either guy being an addition, though I suppose. I don’t think Lille is going to be selling off their guys too much, though, with the Champions League next season guaranteed. Maybe if teams make them an offer they can’t refuse (a la if some team wanted to throw 50 mil at Tottenham for Gareth Bale I’d have to be okay with that, as much as I love Welsh Jesus.)

by ahowie on May 23, 2011 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Well first of all, even you must admit Bale was massively overrated in the wake of his superb performances vs Inter in the CL. Second, I think every top squad in Europe is looking at that duo, including the top 6 teams in England. Will be a very interesting summer on all fronts.

Born in Youngstown, moved to Cleveland as a toddler, starting rooting for Indians from day one, but only started rooting for football at the time the Browns were gone..that, plus the fact that my family were originally from Western PA, and therefore my manly, football influences were all Steelers fans shaped me greatly. Then lived overseas for 6 years with my family during middle school where I got into the EPL and somewhat randomly picked Liverpool as my team (but I’ve stuck with them all these years). Then finally moved back to the USA to South Florida, where I started appreciating the NBA (before Wade was even drafted, before you suggest anything).

Remember when Disney (in Orland) would release doves at like noon every day when they did the parade down Main Street, and eventually, hawks and eagles figured out the time they would do it and wait for them to release them. It would be a slaughter.

Noooo! The city of Akron has hawks or something similar to keep the pigeons/other birds away. Sometimes you see dead birds just laying on the sidewalk. It’s gross.

I think they generally do. In the wild, a peregrine will catch a duck or something, then its mate will sometimes fly out of the nest and fly in upside down and they will transfer the bird in-flight, and the mate will take it back to the nest.

But I vaguely remember, a few years ago, they changed it so that the game would only be suspended, and they would continue it later.

Not sure how that helps his argument. That Sox team won 88 games. No they weren’t world beaters, but that’s still a pretty good season. I have no problem taking flak for this, but if you offered me an 88 win season right now, I’d think pretty hard about taking it.

by 7foot3 on May 24, 2011 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

If they play .500 ball from this point on that’s almost exactly where they will end up. So, do you really have substantial doubts this team doesn’t have it in them to play even slightly better than .500 through to the end of the season? Posting, say 91 to 93 wins?

Your point as it pertains to Law is a good one though.

I'm emotional about my glove...

by JimmyAB on May 24, 2011 1:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Sizemore and Hafner are hurt. I’m still not confident the rotation can hold up all season. The schedule is going to get harder. I’d still say they’ll play better than .500 the rest of the way, but I’m not highly confident about it just yet.
