Raise your hand if you feel confident with Mitch Talbot on the mound tonight.
I’m not raising my hand.

I’m raising my hand. I believe in Mitch, especially north of the border. Something about the changeup and the exchange rate.
Trombone/creamy/soda.
Do I think he’ll shut out the Jays? No.
Do I think he’ll pitch better than last time? Yes.
I think this game is gonna come down to the offense. If they can put up 5-6 runs, I think they win.
Leadoff walks are frowned upon around here.

TOR announcers thought Droobs was trying to roll the ball over to second base when he struck out. If that’s the case, why not bunt? I loathe the notion of trying to hit the ball to the right side of the infield with a man on second. And it did indeed look like he was trying to do that.
Right. Don’t try to hit hte ball right or left. HIT THE DAMN THING HARD

shoulda pinch hit for him then and there. His defense has possibly prevented run(s) though.
"I want to be playing at the end of October or the end of September -- not just at the beginning of April." —Grady
Yeah, luckily for us his offensive performances aren’t directly tied to his defensive performances on a nightly basis. It’s the same deal, though. He’s either really good with the glove or he’ll botch a couple sharply hit grounders a game (he’s done the former a lot more frequently than the latter so far this season, it seems at least).
I feel like Matt LaPorta’s strategy when it comes to hitting on girls in a bar is to just run around to each of them, flail his arms around, show them his baseball card, buy them a shot and then push them off of their chair.

I never got why everyone was slamming Talbot after his last start. He had one bad start after an injury. We’ve had a couple starters with several bad starts.
I have to say, I didn’t watch last year ‘cause I was studying for the bar exam. Probably wasn’t any worse to study for the bar exam than watch the Indians last year though…

So if Bautista hits a HR every 8 at-bats then why not walk him after every 7th plate appearance? See, simple solutions for big problems.

I figured out who Talbot’s motion reminds me of: Anthony Reyes. Sometimes he holds the ball for too long during his delivery and it ends up about two feet from where he wanted it. And always up.
is it the Canadian Little Caesar’s like I assume from the name?
If so, yes. Worst pizza I’ve ever had.
"I want to be playing at the end of October or the end of September -- not just at the beginning of April." —Grady
I thought so, but according to Little Caesar’s Wiki:
While Little Caesars owns the “Pizza! Pizza!” trademark in the U.S., the unaffiliated Pizza Pizza restaurant chain owns the Canadian trademark. As a result, Little Caesars cannot directly use its well-known slogan in Canada, but has used “Two Pizzas!” along with “Delivery! Delivery!”, “Quality! Quality!” or other such double-word tag lines in advertising and on packaging in Canada.
Probably more information than you wanted, but there you go.

how the hell does talbot do it? the fastest i’ve seen him throw is like 91 and his stuff isn’t that good.. and it’s not like he has tomlin’s control either.
He certainly doesn’t sit anywhere near the mid-90s, but that game he was throwing his usual stuff and speed (very effectively) and then late in the game (I want to say the 8th or so because I think he went at least 8 1/3 or 2/3) he found another gear. But yeah, usually he’s low 90s.
i will say though i dont think ive ever seen him get this much movement on his pitches. some of these are nasty
We tend to be overly generous with our “soft-tosser” designations. Talbot’s fastball averaged 91 last year, which in part reflects the fact that he uses a couple different fastballs, faster and slower, that get classified together. He regularly topped 93 last year, and topped 95 in a few outings.
I still don’t feel like I’ve seen the 95MPH talbot fastball. Morrow was throwing 95 tonight. You think you’ve seen Talbot throw those?
These readings vary from park to park, of course, and no, I don’t think Talbot has Morrow’s velocity. But he has more life on his fastball than I think we give him credit for.
Talbot’s deception and movement aren’t amazing — a few guys have tougher stuff to hit at 92 than he has at 95. His stuff isn’t overpowering, but still, 95 is 95.
Just saying, I think Talbot’s fastball has late movement

Here’s how I see it:
- He’s not a 19th round draft pick, he’s a well-bonused first-rounder.
- He wasn’t the throw-in in some trade, he was the main return for the incumbent Cy Young.
- He’s not an infielder.
- He’s not a rookie.
- He’s not in his early 20s anymore.
This guy should be mashing, and we should hate on his ass if he doesn’t.

Here’s how I see it:
-He’s a mediocre hitter
-He has meaningful holes in his swing
-We have no reason, at this point, to expect him to turn into more than what he is right now
-We don’t have a replacement for him lingering in AAA
-There’s no reason to get too worked up about his production or lack thereof; he is what he is

That cannot true. We dreamed that Fernando Cabrera could be among the elite relievers in the game for a decade. He certainly looked like it that first season.
I guess this is my version of gamethread exuberance. Even still, I am starting to feel about Pestano what I used to feel about Bettancourt. Secure.
Lavisky ended up with 2 HRs tonight for LC. Moncrief also had one, giving both of them six on the season.
I am intrigued. He needs to move up to Kinston, face better pitches, and still hold his own before he becomes relevant, though.
I don’t fancy myself any sort of prospect prognosticator, but I think it’s highly unlikely he becomes anything of true relevance. I just like the idea of a guy with his story making it to the big club. To me, it’s even more intriguing than Adam Miller.

3 Possible Saves:
1) Pitch 3+ innings while winning and finish the game.
2) Enter with the score within a certain number of runs equal to the number of outs remaining (max of 3 runs) and finish the game
3) Enter with the tying run on deck, and finish the game.
It was a 3 run lead, but there was only 1 out left, so the score would have either needed to be a 1 or 2 run lead (2 runs would mean that the tying run was on deck).
In other words, the save makes no sense.
Ok let’s take game 3 and get back to winning series.
