IT’S TIME!!!
“I’m coming, Cleveland” will need to be revised come August (knock wood) to: “We’re here, Cleveland”
And in October to: “We’re here, America”

More I think about this…
Kipnis is mired in slump (OPS of .400 in last 10 games). Donald is red hot, has better glove (Kipnis’ bugaboo), as well as being more versatile infielder.
What do Indians need right now? An outfielder. And what has Donald never done? Played the OF. What did Kipnis do in college? Played outfield.
I hope I’m wrong. He’s just that much of a better prospect, right? Please?
David Huff was recalled when Sizemore was placed on the DL, and Jeanmar Gomez optioned when Carmona came off the DL.
They better freaking play him. None of this spelling Grandpa sh_t! Too late to dfa grandpa and un-dfa Everett?
Being a smart-ass is vastly preferable to the alternative
i really doubt it, they have put all this work into moving him to 2nd putting back in OF would take a huge step back

I would say no, but I’ve gotten vague answers today. RT @LetsGoTribe: do you think there is any chance that Kipnis sees OF time? No, right?
MLBastian Jordan Bastian
I’m not keen on idea of having Kipnis playing outfield after 2 years of 2B development, but no one has ruled it out in conversations today.
Maybe all they mean is that if Buck and Brantley can’t go tomorrow (very unlikely), Kipnis might end up there for a single game, Luis style. I can live with that as a contingency plan.

Also, Kipnis will be the 7th Indians rookie to make his debut this year:
Alex White, Zeke Carrera, Josh Judy, Cord Phelps, Lonnie Chisenhall, Zach McAllister and now Kipnis.
though how many of those guys actually played enough to lose rookie status so far? Just thinking about that.

in the long run, it really doesn’t matter. Its just an observation that with the lack of depth on this team, we seem to keep calling up rookies but then sending them down only a few weeks later.

Intensive Purposes? I could care less...

I actually really like that. Using the 40-man and the AAA shuttle to give players tastes of the bigs, reveal strengths and weaknesses, use a couple spots on the 25 for player development rather than vet retreads who won’t budge until cut.
I think its something you do when you do have some depth, not the opposite.
it depends on the situation. a team with a lot of depth may do this, but I believe a lot of these moves (such as calling up mccallister, Alex White, and Zeke) has to do much more with injuries showing our lack of depth. Those guys were called up due to need, not giving them experience.
I teach good life choices. That’s why I almost didn’t graduate High School.
Intensive Purposes? I could care less...
your whole argument is a fallacy!
7 is not actually all that many. Last year, there were 317 rookie debuts. The fewest was San Francisco, which only had one (Darren Ford, who appeared in seven games but had 0 PA). The most was Florida, with 25. Seventeen of the 30 clubs had at least 10 rookies.
Correcting for two computational issues (in addition to the roster expansion, pitchers were counted twice), 148 of the total 209 rookies made an appearance before September. So, 7 is on the high side of average, but not absurdly so.
Look for Kipnis to play mostly 2B. He’ll share it with Orlando Cabrera. Doesn’t sound like he’ll see much, if any time, in OF.
Hoynes tweet
Glad to see I was wrong.
Though I’m a little disappointed in the “sharing” plan (though it’s not a strict platoon). I’m hoping for 5 games/week to be Kipnis (though it’ll probably be more like 3-4).
I doubt they bring up Kipnis just to play him 3-4 days a week.
by Buckeye Brad on Jul 21, 2011 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions
I bet initially it’s a job-sharing thing. If Kipnis gets hot, he’ll have a chance to play more. Sort of like the Phelps thing, but probably a better likelihood of working.

I’ll save you the grief.
Manning: “Kipnis is just looking for something over the middle of the plate right here.”
Underwood (describing a mildly sharp chopper): “JK hammers one to second! But right at the second baseman. And he throws him out. Man, was that close.”
Manning: “If he can learn to elevate that ball, there’s a better chance of it being a home run. You’ve got to drive the ball in the air to get it out of the park.”
Underwood: “Do you think he realizes that yet, Rick?”
Manning: “He’s just a kid.” (laughs) “I mean, welcome to the show, time for more than a cup of coffee. Right now he’s just trying to make solid contact. And perhaps pick up Chris Perez’s wife.”

To their credit, the guys don’t seem to be complete homers and I’m not even using Hawk as a reference point. In the end they may be the most innocuous TV announcers in the game, which is fine by me; because it’s pretty easy to slide down the McCarver slope.

Last week when Santana threw a runner out at 2nd, his line, delivered with much excitement, was “He’s out from me to you, wherever you are!”.
I hope that was caught in the gamethread, because it was the epitome of forcing a tagline.
You are reading my signature.
Underwood strikes me as a little bit like Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice, spending his off-time thinking up and rehearsing catchphrases the same way Mr. Collins rehearses lines with which to flatter his patron Lady Catherine DeBourgh.
