Beau Mills to Columbus
Link is to a tweet. In his 61 games in Akron, Mills has OPS'd 880 with 11 HRs. Mills time as a prospect seems long ago, but the first baseman hasn't yet turned 25. Still, his defensive non-value means he'll have to absolutely destroy pitching to ever contribute in the majors and he wasn't reaching the 'destroy' level in Akron.

Andrew identifies the key
The fact that he was even approaching the “destroy” level when he was in the “twilight zone” for the past few years is still significant in the fact that he’s not “dead” as a prospect yet. This, of course, is partly due to the fact that LaPorta hasn’t solidified 1B, and at this point, is a long shot to do so in my opinion.
Therefore, Mills still has some relevance, even if it’s still a bit of a long shot (probably no more of a long shot than Adam Miller making it to the Majors and contributing in some role).
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
Are you high?
Mills is not a prospect. LaPorta sucking as a major leaguer can’t make Mills a prospect.

That is a bummer. We would have quite a few more prospects at this juncture.
Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

Plenty of negative UZRs in his career.

bingo…
I am waiting to hear a scouting report on him this year. But the last two years were filled with reports of slow hands and slow bat. Not good for a player with his skill set.
Either he’s adapted to the AA level, or something happened to his hands and bat, because he was certainly hitting more like he did in Kinston a few years ago than either of the last 2 years at Akron would suggest. For all practical purposes, he looked to be Minor League depth and that was it, but one can’t say that at this point, especially since 1B is still a position for the taking.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
Part of me wishes he does really well in AAA these last months and we can move him in the offseason. But the realist in me realizes that we will probably hold onto him if he does do that.
I don’t think Beau Mills would be the centerpiece of a trade, but could be used as a piece of another trade. You don’t think a player that was seen by many teams as a first round talent just a few years ago still doesn’t have some value? Or does every organization have a Beau Mills in their pipeline somewhere in the system?
His only value is his draft pedigree, and that was four years ago — and it’s not like he was #1 overall or even #10 overall. No, I don’t think he has any value to a major league team, unless you count Japan, where he may well end up at some point. I see him as an Indy League player, basically.
