White to Rockies rotation, Pomeranz out for the season
White will start Tuesday, August 23 vs. Houston. Not what would have happened for him in Cleveland this year.
UPDATE: Pomeranz underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday night and will be out for the rest of the season.

I was kinda waiting for this. Wasn’t too keen on the Ubaldo trade, as it didn’t particularly address system weakness. We have two mediocre and one excellent start from Ubaldo in the interim – it will be interesting to track White vs U for the remainder of the season.
The really interesting thing will be tracking them for the remainder of their contracts, since that is what was really traded.

I’m wondering if it’s possible that “contracts are traded rather than players” has become such the mantra that an objective look at the players themselves sometimes takes a backseat?
Also, neither here nor there, but I don’t think this trade happens if the Tribe is not in contention. In other words, it is definitely apropos to look at White vs Ubaldo, compare their post-trade 2011 performance, and be able to say something about the trade right then and there.

I’m not advocating ignoring their performance entirely, but I think it’s worth noting that this was not just a move made for the stretch run. You can speculate on whether or not the deal would have occurred, but that is all it is, speculation. If White and Pomeranz outperform Ubaldo over the length of their respective contracts, then the deal was a bust. But if they only outperform him this year and then never again, the deal is still a “win.”

We’ve had one excellent, one mediocre, and one awful start from Ubaldo.
I’m not about to get into the “holy Christ look at what Pomeranz and White did camp” but I find it interesting White is immediately in the Rockies rotation. Obviously not going to be too happy if he’s decent down the stretch in the rotation
Hoping to get up to Denver to catch this game. I’ve got an early morning Wednesday and driving the hour plus home from Denver after a weeknight game has always proven tough, but I’d like to see him pitch.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Not an excellent start for White, but he threw only 86 pitches in 6ip. A Tomlin-esque outing.

Jim Tracy places the blame on umpires and fluky BIP schtuff:

Great stuff. “Hey, if we’re gonna lose 110 games, I’m not gonna get hurt doing it!”

I for one would love to judge this trade as soon as possible.
