Brantley Officially Done For Season; Jerad Head to Cleveland

Transferred OF Michael Brantley to the 60-Day Disabled List (wrist); Purchased the Contract of OF/IF Jerad Head and Recalled him from Columbus (AAA)

Official Release

The good news just keeps on coming:

Michael Brantley was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list, effectively ending his season. The move was necessary to make room for Jerad Head, who was promoted from Class AAA Columbus. Head, who had to be added to the 40-man roster, thus prompting the move with Brantley to the 60-day disabled list, will start in left field today against Kansas City. He'll wear No. 32.

Brantley probably wasn't going to come back anyway, but the Indians needed an extra outfielder because Shin-Soo Choo isn't going play for at least the next couple of games.

So who is Jerad Head? He's a 28-year-old outfielder who has played in the infield as well. 2011 is his sixth year in the organization; the Indians signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2005, and he's made his way up the organizational ladder, always old for his level, but because of his versatility, he's been a nice guy to have on a minor-league roster. He's not a prospect, and he'll likely be one of the first players removed from the roster as the Indians shift into their offseason mode, but he was hitting for power in Columbus (24 home runs and 28 doubles in 463 PA), and he's right-handed, so he'll serve as a (hopefully) temporary fix in the outfield.
