Pronk to return soon
Pronk's not done for the season, after all. He'll return and split DH duties with James Howard Thome, according to Y!

Here’s what I find remarkable: Hafner is seven years younger, and yet his baseball age is now essentially the same. John Sickels once wrote that Hafner would make Indians fans forget about Thome, and for a short burst, it was true. Now we’re back to wondering if Thome is the better player.
Thome/Hafner seasons by WAR, post-2006:
3.4 — Thome 2007
3.2 — Thome 2010
2.5 — Hafner 2010
2.5 — Hafner 2007
1.6 — Thome 2008
1.4 — Hafner 2009
1.3 — Thome 2009
1.2 — Hafner 2011
0.8 — Thome 2011
-1.0 — Hafner 2008
They should sit next to each other on the bench when the team is on the field. I mean really, really close to each other, and not say a word.

To be honest, i’d rather not see Pronk back this year if his foot is bothering him. You brought in a guy with a very similar skill set, let Pronk get all the way healthy for his 2 months of [redacted] teasing next season before some other part of his body leprosy-like falls off.
"Mixed emotions. Rather see him hit PEDroia [with that pitch]. I don’t care if he is in the dugout"
I came here just to say that. If he’s just going to be the same guy he’s been in the last couple of months, I don’t need to see it. That’s circa-2008. “Healthy enough to play” doesn’t cut it here. If his foot can’t stand it and allow him to hit off a stiff front leg, then he shouldn’t come back this year.
Different injury, but same goes for Grady.
I generally agree, but it’s different with a 40-man roster. They can start one guy and pinch-hit the other guy every day we face a righty starter. Hell, they might pinch-hit both of them in the same game. That has some value. You can pinch-hit a guy in the 5th whom you otherwise might have saved for later.

I’m not speaking from a roster-crunch perspective, only from an effectiveness viewpoint. The Hafner that was playing hurt before he really hurt his foot was awful…his OPS over the last month was .559. And if he’s able to play hurt again, you know Acta will use him some. I’m just saying I’m not interested in seeing Hafner this year unless he’s much closer to 100% than he was from late-July on.
