Hagadone, Kluber called up, Choo sent to DL
And, notably, LaPorta not called up to take Choo's spot on the roster. This would seem to belie the diplomatic "just a roster crunch" comments made by Acta two days ago. The active roster now includes two players from the Martinez deal, two players from the Lee deal, and no players from the Sabathia deal.

I’m not so sure that it belies Acta’s comments. Isn’t it just as likely that they wanted an extra pitcher and the only way they could bring Hagadone up was to DL Choo? I think they were holding out hope that Choo could come back before 15 days had elapsed, but my guess is they considered it unlikely, so they were willing to move him to the DL to get Hagadone on the roster for today.
Doesn't LaPorta have to stay in the minors for at least 10 days?

Kluber is a waste of a 40 man spot. Call up CC.

I’m actually interested in seeing Kluber. He has struggled with his control terribly this year…but he has always put up good strikeout numbers as a starter. Should his path to the majors involve a bullpen conversion, a la Rafael Perez, I think he could be interesting.

… no players from the Sabathia deal.
Thanks for nothing, you fat bastard.

Let’s be honest, so far, we got about as much for Sabathia, the age-28 Cy Young incument, as we did for Chuck Finley, the age-39 guy with a 4.44 ERA.

It’s funny how trades work…we got more in returns from Casey Blake, Mark DeRosa, E. Perez and Ben Broussard who have as many all-star appearances between them as you and I do – then we did for two young Cy Young award winners – one of whom had a year and a half remaining on a team friendly contract. Shoot when its all said and done Kearns might bring us in more than CC did.
Christopher Colombus got more tail in 1492 than you get in a lifetime.
The Lee trade in the final analysis will be viewed as more significant than half the ones you named. Donald and Marson are on the field right now, Carrasco still shows big-time potential.
Even the Sabathia deal, obviously the book is not yet closed. Brantley is young, and the real knock on him is that he’s both (a) injury prone and (b) not really an impact player even when healthy. It’s always possible that LaPorta reinvents his career. The bottom line, though, is that you expect to get more than just a single non-core contributor for an ace in his prime.

He had something of a breakout season this year, but it was only enough to get him to Double-A at age 23 — so in other words, he’s no longer playing against younger competition. I doubt he has another big breakthrough left in him, so given typical pitcher attrition, it seems like less than 50-50 that he’ll be a serviceable middle reliever.
To put it another way, it’s unlikely that we protect him from Rule 5 and also unlikely he gets selected. His present-day value is not significant.

I should say, breakout relative to his ability to stay healthy.

But interesting that Finley eventually turned into Talbot.

Of course the Sabathia trade will end up being the worst one. The Lee deal still has a chance to end up worse, relatively speaking.
