The phantom attendance at yesterday’s game pushed the Indians into 24th place (9th in the AL) in average attendance (4 fans ahead of Toronto).

Why do people even bring up the “phantom” attendance? That’s part of attendance figures in all stadiums. If your team isn’t in the playoff hunt, you’ve got significant no-shows. It reflects nothing else.

by Jay on Sep 21, 2011 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

The make-up game had an attendance of over 28,000, which is quite a bit more than the game would have drawn if it had been scheduled in September.

It’s just a delayed addition of a July Saturday game to the attendance stats.

The paid attendance at the regularly scheduled night game was 19K.

by palcal on Sep 21, 2011 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

so why is that phantom attendence? It would have happened in July, not adding it until now actually artificially suppressed the numbers.

Finally! We shut a guy down who has nothing to gain by playing further. Tomlin won’t pitch this year.

by the way, “he looked so healthy we didn’t want to risk him” is some seriously dumbass logic. So the more injured he looked, the more likely we’d be to send him out there Saturday.

My best explanation:
He has not had Tommy John’s surgery yet, right? If no pain, tendon is probably fine, shut him down. If a little pain, tendon may be shot. Pitch him to confirm. If moderate/severe pain, tendon is probably shot. Look into Tommy John’s.

Ubaldo’s stat line looks great, is he as dominant as that suggests?

Kila was DFA’d? That is somebody i would def. take a chance on, especially with our 1B situation.

It feels like we’ve faced Buerhle about 4 times in the past 4 weeks.

It feels like 3 regulars leave the game with Lonnie every day.

Also, it feels like our second half home record is pretty pitiful.

by johnf34 on Sep 21, 2011 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Isn’t 8th-inning banter by play-by-play guys in a game between 2 eliminated teams awesome? Heck, it was only in the 4th inning when Grover was chatting up Dave Bresnahan and his potato-throwing antics…
