September baseball! Feel the electricity!!!

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

Well, would ya look at that.

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Sep 22, 2011 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

Excited for full seasons of healthy Kipnis and developed Chiz.

Some Fukudome wouldn’t be bad either.

i can’t wait for next year.

this team is going to be good, fellas

by tr1betime on Sep 22, 2011 7:18 PM EDT reply actions

2 years/$11M for Fukudome?

Can’t say I would be super excited about that. His decline in plate discipline this season is problematic.

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

But he would probably provide a much better replacement than Carerra, if and when, Grady and/or Brantley were to get injured next season.

Fear the Fedora.

by MooneysRebellion on Sep 22, 2011 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s not the worst option, I agree with that.

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Really need that crazy high on base guy to hit in front of Kipnis, Droobs, and Santana. I guess Brantley could be, but I like him much better hitting ninth.

Fear the Fedora.

by MooneysRebellion on Sep 22, 2011 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Brantley is another guy whose plate discipline collapsed in the second half of the season

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

knocking a few out of the park can have that affect on guys. They get a little homer happy and throw discipline out the window. Could have also been the wrist bothering him, too, I suppose.

2/$9M?

I just don’t know if we spend more than Austin Kearns money on a player like this.

by Jay on Sep 23, 2011 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

he can play a heck of a lot more innings than we ever expected Kearns to.

by westbrook on Sep 23, 2011 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

And with age, what are the chances ends up actually playing less? Reverse-Kearns.

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Sep 24, 2011 1:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Possibly, but it’s a question of resource allocation. How much marginal benefit, how probable, and at what cost, which equates to risk?

What we’re talking about here is a Dellucci contract. The point has been made (to me!) that Dellucci’s performance as an Indian was definitely worse than, well, almost everybody’s. But the question more relates to Dellucci’s prior performance, i.e., his projected value/risk profile at the moment we signed him.

Isn’t Fukudome basically a Dellucci-type value, and isn’t this proposed 2/$9M formulation essentially a Dellucci-type deal? And should we keep doing deals like that?

Gomez getting good results on his sinker tonight

Fukudome cares not. Nice game for him.

Guess I picked the wrong game to poo-poo Fukudome

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

Gomez kinda reminds me of Westbrook. Sinker/slider/change and a very good fielding pitcher.

by jayme on Sep 22, 2011 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

The slider really seems to have improved this year, too. And he’s only 23!

Fear the Fedora.

by MooneysRebellion on Sep 22, 2011 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

LaPorta really hit the crap out of that one

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Bullpen outs would be a welcome change.

Cord Phelps….sad face

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

I haven’t seen Kluber pitch up here yet. How has he looked? Is he projected as a starter or bullpen guy now?

by ahowie on Sep 22, 2011 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

Could go either way. If he can show improved control, he is a rotation option. if not, he seems destined for the bullpen.

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

That AB played to his strengths, fastball-slider

by APV on Sep 22, 2011 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

That was a nice win

Watched this one live. Dad’s a Lifelong White Sox fan. LaPorta played a good 1b, but his at bat music is awful.

How’d you end up a Tribe fan?

Trombone/creamy/soda.

by Joel D on Sep 22, 2011 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

The better question is how my dad ended up a chisox fan. Lived his whole life in Western PA. His mom was a huge Tribe fan. She took me to Municipal when I was 3. Also strange my father isn’t a Browns or Steelers fan. Started out a Lions fan before becoming a Broncos fan in the early 60s … Mostly because they were so terrible.
