I doubt he and Boras are much interested in one-year pacts.

Heavy P is not the hitter equivalent of Ryan Madson.

Now the Yanks as well as Detroit will probably be in on Carlos Pena.

Yeah, the events of the past couple days haven’t been good for the chances for the Indians signing Pena.
Peña wants a multi-year deal, no?
I don’t see the Tigers offering that considering they have Vic through 2014 and Miggy through 2015.
As sad as it makes me, I’d guess Pena would rather sign a one year deal worth a few extra mil than sign a below market multi year deal.

As much as I love Victor, this is good news for the Indians. Victor had a monster season in ’11 and was one of the main reasons their lineup was so good.
Except that it makes the FA 1B hunt more difficult and expensive.

Maybe we can get Peralta to run into him.

In other offseason surgery news, Carl Crawford went in for some arthroscopic debridement surgery on his wrist…unlikely to give him a DL stint equivalent to Victor’s, but makes that contract look like more and more of a monstrosity.
terrible news for victor but good news for us.
I can’t really feel great about this though, because you know when Victor goes into the Hall of Very Good, he’d choose an Indians cap.

Once they go to the highest bidder, they get no sympathy from me.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against Victor at all. But he chose the money, he’s still got the money, so there’s no reason to feel bad.
I can see this, but at the same time I’m not ever going to forget him crying in the dugout during Game 7.

Disagree, let’s please keep Valverde healthy. I can’t wait for the conversation this year about why he’s suddenly not as “clutch” as he once was when he starts blowing saves.
Can also see some serious regression for Jhonny too.

I’m not counting on either of these guys regressing although I’d love to see the Big Potato melt down like cheddar on a hot baked…well, you know.
Hopefully the Tribe improves enough offensively and health-wise that we don’t have to worry about the Tigers beating themselves to win the division.
I also think that Avila and Fister will
come down from their “career” two months.

And, yes, Tiger fans must remember that their 15-game gap was due in part to Verlander’s insane world-beating season. As much as we respect Justin, there is no chance he does that two years in a row.

If he does, he’d join Pedro Martinez (1999-2002) and Johan Santana (2004-2006) as the only AL starters since 1969 to have consecutive seasons with a WHIP less than 1.
