I still remember the hope inspired by that deal at the time and the crushing sense of disappointment when it flopped. One can only hope Detroit fans will soon feel the same way.

I remember having tickets with my buddies for a Yankee game with Garland pitching in 1980. Had to back out, something to do with my girlfriend at the time. Of course, he threw a 2-hitter in probably his most memorable game with the Indians. The relationship with the girl, alas, was short-lived.

The girls come and go, but the tribe is forever. Having said that I once backed out on going to see Hershiser vs Maddux in 99 to go on a first date – we’ve been married 9 years.
