2012 Cleveland Indians Simulation Results
I don't know if any of my fellow Tribe fans here play, or have even heard of Whatifsports.com, but I have several teams running at a time, especially in the off-season when I don't have "real baseball" to watch. For $12 you can search through a database of players from 1885-2011 and select any combination of 25 players in an $80 million dollar salary cap. Each player is assigned a salary which is calculated based on dozens of statistics. Owners looking for more of a challenge can play in "Theme Leagues." In the most recent league I was in, the rules called for you to claim a team - In my case the Tribe - and draft 25 players from their current 40 man roster. Each player could be "twisted." I.E. I don't have to draft Travis Hafner from 2011, I can take the 2006 version. This simulation would "play out" the 2012 regular season. Here is how my team fared...
Lineup:
2009 Asdrubal Cabrera, SS - 612 AB, .308/.354/.411, 4 HR, 75 RBI, 17 SB.
2010 Shin-Soo Choo, RF - 610 AB, .295/.376/.416, 14 HR, 83 RBI, 26 SB.
2006 Grady Sizemore, CF - 654 AB, .279/.352/.441, 16 HR, 93 RBI, 22 SB.
2006 Travis Hafner, DH - 516 AB, .307/.425/.531, 26 HR, 110 RBI.
2011 Carlos Santana, C - 615 AB, .251/.358/.412, 18 HR, 94 RBI. Also subbed at 1B.
2008 Jose Lopez, 2B - 643 AB, .288/.306/.369, 8 HR, 85 RBI. Only 2 errors all season.
2011 Jack Hannahan, 1B - 396 AB, .269/.342/.396, 5 HR, 41 RBI. Believe it or not he was my best option at 1B.
2009 Andy LaRoche, 3B - 596 AB, .242/.288/.324, 6 HR, 70 RBI. Believe it or not he was my best option at 3B.
2011 Michael Brantley, LF - 510 AB, .272/.314/.393, 3 HR, 48 RBI, 11 SB.
Bench:
2011 Lou Marson, C - 285 AB, .212/.272/.295, 0 HR, 18 RBI
2011 Jason Donald, MIF - 183 AB, .333/.374/.412, 1 HR, 25 RBI.
2009 Felix Pie, OF - 225 AB, .278/.314/.417, 3 HR, 23 RBI, 7 SB.
2011 Jason Kipnis, 2B - 167 AB, .282/.320/.463, 4 HR, 24 RBI
Rotation:
2010 Ubaldo Jimenez - 238 IP, 14 W, 3.51 ERA, 1.38 WHIP
2002 Derek Lowe - 238 IP, 15 W, 3.47 ERA, 1.26 WHIP
2011 Justin Masterson - 225 IP, 16 W, 3.73 ERA, 1.30 WHIP
2007 Fausto Carmona - 218 IP, 15 W, 3.19 ERA, 1.29 WHIP
2011 Josh Tomlin - 172 IP, 8 W, 4.43 ERA, 1.12 WHIP
Bullpen:
2010 Carlos Carraso - 4.44/1.48
2010 Frank Herrmann - 5.07/1.38
2011 Joe Smith - 3.47/1.25
2011 Tony Sipp - 3.42/1.20
2010 Chris Perez - 2.83/1.07
2007 Rafael Perez - 3.43/1.02
2011 Vinnie Pestano - 2.74/1.11, 41/47 SV
Overall the team went 86-76, three games behind the Kitties. The Phillies, with 1996 Jim Thome starting at 3B defeated the Yankees in the playoffs in 6 games. Not too much info here & not much to discuss...but hey it has been a slow off season thus far figured maybe someone would get a kick out of it.

It’s an interesting and not entirely pointless exercise.
Having said that, I really doubt that 2002 Derek Lowe will be showing up.
I’ve wondered that myself. Not counting wins-losses, would say, 2007 Derek Lowe be kind of what we are expecting?

It was more of a rhetorical question I suppose. First time I’ve seen it on here.

That’s…worse than a subject line.

I actually thought about that and told myself that I’d get rid of it for gamethreads this year at LGT. So no worries there.
FWIW, because I’ve been posting here at LGT since the summer of 2007, I don’t use subject lines at all. And I get called out every gamethread at Alligator Army because of it (and once or twice at other places, but they gave up eventually). But I remain strong in agreement with y’all that subject lines are horrible.

I almost didn’t even say anything, because I know you’re a regular.

Just as a suggestion … you could have the links without the button. Also, you could have your whole sig on one line.
My suggestion to the SBN folks is that they should bar graphics in sigs and possibly even links. Short of that, they could modify the stylesheet so that within a sig, a link shows up as non-bold and in a more muted shade of the link color, just as the non-link part of the sig does.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be opposed to your suggestions there to SBN, especially the muted shade link color one. The only reason why I even have the button is because one of the guys at ESPN who covers the Gators and I, got into a little bit of a disagreement of sorts and Twitter was the only way he’d respond to me.
Sort of like a “you know where to find me” thing, because neither of us would comment to one another in our respective articles on the subject.
But yeah, you’re right in that I should have the sig on one line. As for the links without the button, I tried that at first, but the button was far and away the better option for SBN users compared to just a link.

Easier to follow someone. Because all you have to do is click on the button.
As for the SBN users, a whole heck of a lot of them. Granted, most of the blogs I go to are college and they are packed with them. So are a lot of the NFL blogs.

First, you can embed the “follow” script in a regular link without the button.
Second, I would dispute that it’s “far and away” easier. In almost every case, I prefer to have a quick look at the feed before I click “follow.” A regular link accomplishes that. For those who are ready to commit, it’s only one click away.
Third, by “which SBN users,” I meant, which SBN users actually have a serious interest in following your feed? And I don’t mean that as an insult, it’s just that you frequent a lot of places, and most of them are not going to be fertile ground for this … yet we all have to look at your elaborate sig.
Yeah, but when you embed like that, it takes you away from the thread or whatever article you’re reading to do that. Then, if you were in the middle of something, you have to go back. It’s just less of a hassle for some I guess.
As emd2k3 said above, they are quite common around the SBN universe (and other places I imagine). So it isn’t like I’m the only one who has it. Though I’m guessing by the responses here, at LGT that’s a different story.
Which is why I said above, that I’ve already thought about it and plan on getting rid of it for gamethreads here at LGT. I just didn’t for this thread (which obviously, was a mistake) because it wasn’t a gamethread or a massive off-season thread, rather just a fun what-if kind of discussion.
But yes, in accordance with your wishes, I’ll remove it when I post here from now on. Starting after this post of course. It’s no big deal. No worries.

I think if he’s averaged 5.2 innings per start, 16 QS, a 1.46 WHIP and a 4.57 ERA over the last three seasons, we might expect 5.2 innings per start, 16 QS, a 1.46 WHIP and a 4.57 ERA, if we’re lucky.
