Tribe News and Notes, October 8, 2012

The Indians will formally announce Terry Francona as their manager later today.

In other news...

Hoynes doesn't think "many teams look at Cabrera as a long-term solution at shortstop" but would like him at 2B. I recommend not reading these questions, though.

Curt Schilling talked about Terry Francona for a little bit. Surprising that he was willing to talk.

If John Farrell goes to Boston, would Torey Lovullo replace him in Toronto's dugout?

The Rockies could interview Sandy Alomar.

Monday Musings:

Unfortunately for Tribe fans, Doug Fister appears to be getting better. Or at least better at striking people out.

The 6'8" Detroit right-hander had a 4.71 K/BB from September 1 until the end of the regular season and continued that trend Sunday. Against the Athletics, he struck out 8 while walking 2 over 7 innings. Oakland managed 2 runs on 6 hits off Fister and will hope to do better Tuesday against Anibal Sanchez.

Fister set an AL record when he struck out 9 straight Royals on 9/27.

-----------------------

There were five home runs hit Saturday. Four of them led off innings.

One of the things fans like to say is that certain guys "just need a change of scenery" to finally sniff their potential.

With Terry Francona coming to Cleveland to manage the Tribe, some of these guys could get just that, while not actually moving on to a different club. This applies to Jeanmar Gomez, David Huff and Matt Laporta for sure. On the other hand is Lars Anderson, who did not meet his potential in Boston. He played in just 24 games in The Francona Years though.

What do you guys think? Does this phenomenon exist? Does it still apply if the guy stays in the same home clubhouse?
