Burnett traded to Pirates, finally
Looks to be a pretty good deal for the Pirates. They don't lose any major prospects and NY covers more than half of Burnett's remaining salary.

First thought I had: If the Pirates were able to part with so little and still not take on the majority of his contract, how far apart could the Indians and the Yankees have been on Hafner for Burnett?
Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.
Were there any credible reports that the Indians were looking to deal Hafner for Burnett? All I remember were Sherman and Heyman, not two people I’d put a lot of stock in.

Not meant as a criticism at all, but I was just wondering … how many FanShots do we have each year where the gist is, essentially, “Transaction occurs without Indians involvement, as expected, despite more or less baseless speculation” ?
In the transactions involving guys not on our team column…I saw something about former Tribe farmhand Ryan Edell retiring after signing a minor league deal with the Orioles. Edell’s not young, but he’s a lefty, has a career ERA of 3.60 (and similar FIP), and a career K/BB ratio over 4. How does that guy not get a shot with the Orioles?…or any team in the league?
That is pretty odd. His numbers aren’t great but you gotta figure someone would give him a shot.

Could be. But if so it would be some of his first. He’s logged 120+ innings every season since 2007. He really only had one rough patch in his career…his first promotion to AAA during the second half of 2009 and the beginning of his 2010 campaign back in AA, before being shipped to Oakland. Edell showed up all over the place in my 2009 mid-season pitching prospect review.
