Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

I think the oblique, whatever the hell that is, is my least favorite Indians related muscle.

Via HBT:

Tribe trainer Lonnie Soloff told reporters Sunday in camp that Perez’s "body wasn’t ready for the intensity" of the throwing session, hinting at a possible offseason conditioning issue.

I suppose we always knew he was the Marlon Brando of our Bullpen Mafia.

Fire Slider did lob quite a meatball there.

First, you fry some garlic.

What is more Spring Training: sunshine or a pitcher straining his oblique?

by johnf34 on Feb 26, 2012 12:56 PM EST reply actions

Just want to mention that spring training injuries aren’t all that uncommon. Particularly of this sort. I’m happy it isn’t a long term injury that would impact the majority of the season.

by hans on Feb 26, 2012 1:15 PM EST reply actions

I’m really dreading saying this, but didn’t Cliff Lee strain his oblique early in ST in 2007?

by 7foot3 on Feb 26, 2012 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

Does this mean we’re going to have our hearts ripped out in the ALCS?

by YoDaddyWags on Feb 26, 2012 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

Or that Perez will save 50+ games in 2013?

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Feb 26, 2012 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, Cliff Lee is one man who had an oblique strain, this is true.

by hans on Feb 26, 2012 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

I think people are taking what I said too far. I’m just saying that this may actually impact the majority of the season for him.

by 7foot3 on Feb 27, 2012 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

I think people were just having some fun with it. Myself included.

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Feb 27, 2012 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

Ergo, Chris Perez wins Cy Young in 2013. And unlike Cliff Lee, he wins it in a contending year.

by Jay on Feb 26, 2012 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

Isn’t this fun?

So glad that spring training started.

by westbrook on Feb 26, 2012 1:28 PM EST via mobile reply actions

This 4 to 6 week projection. Can anyone fill me in how long it took Cliff Lee (twice right?) and Westbrook to come back from those injuries? Seemed to recall it being a bit longer (but yes, Rage is a reliever).

My first unbelievably optimistic thought was Perez:Pestano is as Pipp:Gehrig.

Wonderful thought, and not entirely crazy other than the extreme of Gehrig.

by Jay on Feb 26, 2012 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

Right, I didn’t mean to say Vinnie’s ceiling was quite that high.

Finally, Vinnie gets a shot at some lower-leverage situations!!

We’ve already got enough injury-prone players. If others start missing time, it could get ugly fast.

Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

by Manhattan Tribe Fan on Feb 26, 2012 3:53 PM EST via mobile reply actions

That’s why I picked them to win less than 75.

by Toxicadam on Feb 27, 2012 8:22 AM EST up reply actions

Still won 80 last year with as bad of an injury plagued season as can be imagined.

You can take the man out of Rage, but not the Rage out of the man.

Matt LaPorta is the bane of my existence.

by USSChoo on Feb 26, 2012 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

I think you need to be a bit “aloof” to be a closer. I think it’s part of the standard contract.

by Ryan on Feb 26, 2012 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

I think idiot is harsh. The man does what he does. I’m sure he’s as upset as anybody that he’s hurt.

I’ve gotta go against you on this one. There’s a reason you don’t go from nothing right to 100%. He was begging to tweak something, and he did.

Trying to impress brass on day one was what first tweaked Atom’s wing.

by stuart dean on Feb 29, 2012 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

That isn’t even the dumbest part. It’s the rationale that taking that approach wouldn’t waste a day. A touch more than a day wasted now. Tree saved.

by Brick. on Feb 29, 2012 10:10 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

He’s like a dumb Kenny Powers.
