Zach McAllister, who made several spot starts last year, will get another one today (weather permitting).
A slightly different take on the age-related controversies in the Dominican Republic. Records-keeping in the DR isn't good enough to authenticate both identity and age, so clubs are going so far as to use DNA testing to prevent another Fausto Carmona/Roberto Hernandez situation. But there's no accurate way to confirm the actual age of a human.
With the Houston Astros moving to the AL next year, there's going to be at least one interleague series happening at all times during the season. I'm not vehemently against interleague play, but I do think that it needs to be limited as much as possible. Now one of the putative reasons set forth for introducing interleague is going away, as rivalry home-and-home series look like they are going away. The Indians will not have a home series with the Reds every season, which will hurt attendance, as usually that series is one of the best-attended series of the home schedule.
Reading between the lines, it looks like each AL division will be facing off against an NL division on a rotating basis, so that the schedule for each team in the division will as close to the same as possible. I just hope that interleague play is limited as much as possible, as even if clubs in the same division will have the same schedule, clubs competing for the Wild Cards will have a different one.
Zach McAllister will get the call for Game 1 today, as he's healthy, on the 40-man roster, and having a good start to the season in Columbus. He's struck out 8.2 batters per 9 inning in his first 6 starts with the Clippers.
The Indians won't be having to send a player down to make room for McAllister as this season a team playing a day-night doubleheader (scheduled with at least 48 hours' warning) may expand their rosters to 26 players for that day. This is a great rule, as before the player sent down to make room for a second starter couldn't be recalled for 10 days.
Note: Due to today's doubleheader, the Top 100 post will appear on Tuesday morning.
