Minor League Recap: June 26, 2012

Columbus 4, Norfolk 3
David Huff allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 5.2 innings, and the Columbus bullpen allowed 1 runs over the remainder of the game. Matt LaPorta, Matt Pagnozzi, and Chad Huffman each doubled.

Erie 8, Akron 5
Geovanni Soto had a decent start, but Bryan Price gave up 4 runs in two innings, letting the game get away. Jeremie Tice continued his multi-level hot streak, going 2-for-4 with 2 doubles. Thomas Neal hit his 12th double.

Carolina 8, Frederick 6
Jesus Aguilar, who will be joining Francisco Lindor in the Futures Game, slammed two home runs to power the Mudcat offense. Giovanny Urshela, who is holding his own as a 20-year-old in the Carolina League, went 2-for-4 with a home run. Francisco Jimenez went seven, allowing two earned runs on 5 hits.

Lake County 5, Dayton 2 (12 Innings)
The Captains scored 3 in the top of the 12th to break a 2-2 tie. Shawn Morimando started, allowing 1 run in 6 innings despite allowing 4 hits and 4 walks.

Mahoning Valley 6, Williamsport 2
Tyler Naquin had his best game as a pro, going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Juan Romero hit his fourth home run in 7 games with the Scrappers; the 19-year-old showed good power numbers in two seasons in the AZL, and that's carried over to the NYPL. Ryan Merritt allowed 1 run in five innings of work.

AZL Athletics 7, AZL Indians 3
Juan Herrera went 3-for-4, and Eric Haase (7th Round, 2011 Draft) went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. There was also a Matt Packer sighting; the 2009 Draft Pick made his 2012 debut, starting and allowing a run on two hits in his inning of work. Dillon appeared for the second time, and allowed 5 runs in 3.1 innings.

Transactions

Columbus: Released 3B Andy LaRoche

LaRoche was hitting .234/.331/.372, not a good line for a 28-year-old who struggled to break a .700 OPS in the PCL last year.
