Minor League Recap: August 9 & 10, 2012

Columbus 5, Indianapolis 1

Columbus 2, Durham 12

Roberto Hernandez was smooth in his final pre-Cleveland tune-up, lasting seven innings while allowing just four hits and one walk. Hernandez struck out five and recorded eleven ground outs. David Huff was not as fortunate Thursday night, giving up nine runs including four homeruns in less than five innings. Huff has now given up 14 HRs in his past six starts and I would be shocked if he stays on the 40-man roster through the off-season.

Akron 7, New Hampshire 2

Akron 1, New Hampshire 3

Akron 3, Portland 5

The Aeros' had a double-header yesterday, the first game being the continuation of a previously suspended game. Trey Haley pitched 2.1 scoreless in the "start" of the continued game, while Nick Weglarz went 3-3 with two doubles and a HR (#14) in the two games. On Thursday, T.J. House had a good start through four innings before giving up a hat trick in the fifth. Rob Bryson's erratic command returned in relief as the Aeros were unable to hold off the Sea Dogs.

Carolina 3, Lynchburg 6

Carolina 3, Salem 2

In Friday's game, Fabio Martinez made his Cleveland debut, giving up two runs (one unearned) in an inning of work. Martinez, who fell victim to erratic control with the Angels, did not walk a batter, but did register two wild pitches in his inning (bad, but not as bad as Kyle Blair's 3 WPs an inning later). On Thursday, Delvi Cid led the offense with three hits and a stolen base (#28), raising his line to .284/.346/.413.

Lake County 3, Great Lakes 4 (6 innings)

Lake County 3, Great Lakes 6

Weather ended last night's game early for the Captains, but not before Luigi Rodriguez could get two hits. Jake Lowery added a double, as he continues to try and re-discover the power stroke that abandoned him for most of the season in Carolina. Francisco Lindor HRed (#6) in Thursday's loss, only his second HR since May.

Mahoning Valley 7, Batavia 3

Mahoning Valley 6, Batavia 7

Charlie Valerio had two hits, including his eighth double of the season on Thursday. Valerio is yet another catcher in the organization, a position I would argue sits only behind SS in terms of minor league depth for the organization (excluding bullpen arms).

AZL Indians 5, AZL Giants 6 (11 innings)

AZL Indians 7, AZL Brewers 2

Dorssys Paulino had three more hits Thursday night, and 2012 draft pick Kieran Lovegrove had his best start of the season last night (3IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 4K).
