Jeanmar Gomez allowed a run, four of them actually, for the first time in three starts. Eric Berger, coming off two stints in the rotation, gave up another pair of runs in relief. Vinny Rottino and Matt LaPorta had doubles for Columbus.
Paolo Espino struck out eight in five innings, allowing just one run on a solo-HR from Jose Lozada. Jesus Aguilar had a single in four ABs in his Akron debut, while Matt Lawson was 2-2 with a double, sac fly and HBP.
Carolina outhit Frederick twelve to eight, but aside from a Tyler Cannon double (part of a three-hit night), the Mudcats could only muster singles. Will Roberts gave up four runs in seven innings as the starter.
Lake County: Off
The Scrappers were well represented at the NY-Penn All-Star game. Charlie Valerio went 0-2, while Joe Sever and Joe Wendle both went 1-2. Luis DeJesus and Jacob Lee pitched the first two innings for the American League side, combining for two perfect innings with three Ks.
The Indians held off four runs by the Reds in the final two innings to win this battle of the Goodyear complex. Dorssys Paulino was the game's hero, going 3-5 with a double and two HRs (#4, 5). Joshua Nervis pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, continuing his position as one of the Goodyear Tribe's best pitchers (23.2 IP, 1.52 ERA, 8 BB, 34 K).
