Cleveland Shortstop Quiz

Another week down, moving back to the infield, let's try shortstop. Originally, this position was more of a rover spot, hence the #6 in defensive positions as a tweener of the infield and outfield.

As last time, name the Top 25 shortstops by games played (not counting 2012 games). No cheating by pulling searches from BRef!!! Guess the player and approximate spot in the Top 25.

Postscript

It looks to be 201 different guys who spent at least one game digging out grounders in the hole. As we see above, only 23 of them cracked the 200 game barrier, but we had 3 guys break 1000 games, leading to some lower numbers at the bottom of the list. There are only 14 guys with between 100 and 200 games, leaving 164 with less than 100 games.

This position had more longevity than the other positions reviewed so far, with Boudreau and Vizquel both over 1400 games, Sewell over 1200 and Chapman just under 1000. Of the 2012 guys, Asdrubal is cuurrently at 482 moving him up to #14. But he only needs 28 games to pass Strickland/Held and Knickerbocker and probably will get there with 40 games remaining. Donald will still fall short of 100 games, and Lillibridge, Hannahan and Juan Diaz only increase the overall total up to 204 guys at short.

I was surprised that there weren't more flash in the pan guys here, but here a few other notable guys near the bottom: Alvaro Espinoza (106), Chico Salmon (104), Cory Snyder (64), Carlos Baerga (50), Al Rosen (5), John Lowenstein (4), Travis Fryman (4), Larry Doby (1), Casey Blake (1)
