The Indians scored four runs between the eighth and ninth innings to send the game into extra innings, but suddenly the scoring stopped. And when they finally had a golden opportunity in the 14th to score (bases loaded, nobody out), they couldn't.

Normally a managerial change is made after the season, or perhaps in the middle of it. The last time the Indians fired a manager in the middle of the season was when Charlie Manuel was let go part-way through the 2002 campaign. 10 years later, the Indians again have an interim manager, but this case is quite a bit different.

Thanks to the Acta firing, this otherwise meaningless late-September game has a nice subplot to it. Sandy Alomar will be managing his first game as the interim manager, and while the team's performance isn't going to effect one way or the other whether he gets the permanent job, we'll get a glimpse over the last six weeks as to how he deals with various in-game situations.
