Minor League Recap: September 5-6, 2012

Akron (Eastern League Playoffs, Best of 5)

Bowie 4, Akron 2 (Game 1, BOW 1-0)

Both Lonnie Chisenhall and Carlos Carrasco made rehab appearances, with Carrasco pitching a scoreless first inning and Chisnehall getting three at-bats (going 1-for-3) and playing third base. Carrasco is scheduled to make his next appearance

The Aeros had a difficult matchup, as they faced Dylan Bundy, one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. They managed only one run against Bundy, and that came on a second inning Matt Lawson home run. The Aeros scored another run in the seventh after Bundy had left, but by that time Bowie had scored 4 runs between the fourth and sixth innings, all off Paolo Espino (who was the Akron "starter", replacing Carrasco in the second inning).

Bowie 7, Akron 5 (Game 2, BOW 2-0)
This was a back-and-forth game. Akron took an early 1-0 lead, then Bowie tied it in the bottom of the first and took the lead with a run in the second. The Aeros fought back to take a brief 5-4 in the sixth inning, but Bowie again score in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, then went ahead for good with two runs in the eighth.

T.J. House was the Akron starter, and he went five innings, allowing four runs on 6 hits (including two home runs). Trey Haley allowed the tying run in the sixth, and Shawn Armstrong took the loss with the two runs allowed in the eighth. Ryan Rohlinger hit a home run in the sixth, and Matt Lawson went 2-for-3 with a triple.

Lake County (Midwest League Playoffs, Best of 3)

Lake County 5, Bowling Green 4 (Game 1, LAKE 1-0)
The Captains held on after the Hot Rods cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the fifth thanks to some outstanding bullpen work, most of it by the guy who allowed the three runs.

Cody Anderson (14th Round, 2011) made the start, pitching three scoreless innings before giving way to Nicholas Pasquale (20th Round, 2012). Pasquale pitching a scoreless fourth, then allowed three runs in the fifth, and then pitched three more scoreless innings, though they weren't easy; in the sixth, Pasquales left runners on second and third, and in the seventh, he pitched around a one-out double.

The Tribe's first round picks from the 2011 and 2012 drafts were in the starting lineup, and both had outstanding games. Francisco Lindor (1st Round, 2011) went 2-for-4 with two doubles, and Tyler Naquin (1st Round, 2012) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk. Jerrud Sabourin (free agent, 2011) went 3-for-5.

Lake County 5, Bowling Green 4 (10 Innings) (Game 2, LAKE wins series 2-0)

The Captains won again by a 5-4 score, this time in extra innings, to take the series.

Starter Mason Radeke (35th Round, 2011) allowed 9 hits in 3.1 innings, but somehow only allowed 2 runs. Louis Head, who relieved Radeke allowed the Hot Rods to tie the game at 4 with two runs in the seventh inning.

The Captains scored four early runs, then were held scoreless until extra innings. The go-ahead run scored on a wild pitch on a strikeout.

Pacing the Captains offense was Bryson Myles (6th Round, 2011), who went 4-for-5 with a double. Francisco Lindor went 1-for-5 with a double, and Jose Ramirez (free agent, 2011) and Jordan Smith (9th Round, 2011) had two hits apiece.
