The Indians have released their 2014 Spring Training schedule, along with report dates for various groups of players. Pitchers and catchers will report on Tuesday, February 11, 80 days from now. We can make it people, we can make it.
Other position players will report on February 15, and the team will hold its first full-team workout two days later. The Tribe will play its first Spring Training game on Wednesday, February 26, at 1:05 local time, facing the Reds. The Indians will host 15 games during the Cactus League season, but play 18 games at Goodyear Park, due to three 'road' games their against the Reds, whom they share the facilities with.
Other notable dates are March 16, when the Indians have their only split-squad games (facing the Giants and Cubs), March 18, when they host the Giants in their only night game at Goodyear Park, and March 28 and 29, when they'll face the Padres twice at Petco Park in San Diego.
When Spring Training is a bit closer, we'll have a "meet up" post for Let's Go Tribe readers planning to travel to Goodyear and interested in meeting up to watch a game.
The 2014 regular season kicks off for the Indians on March 31, when they head upstate to face the Oakland Athletics. That contest is scheduled as a night game, which is a major drag, because it won't start until 10:05 Eastern. I'm somewhat surprised MLB allows an Opening Day game to begin so late for any fan base, even for a road game. Perhaps Oakland will move it to the afternoon between now and then. The Indians home opener will be Friday, April 4, against the Twins. No time has been announced for that contest yet.
